  1. meh i guess it's cool to see gibson dunking over one of the nba's top stars, but it's not like wade could really do much about it. it was a 3-on-1 breakout and wade had to stop the guy with the ball first. he didn't have a chance and his options were to get dunked over or move out of the way and let him dunk.
  2. i don't care if he lives on the moon. if the guy was a serial rapist i'd have a problem with signing him, but his great character flaw is that he's a fundamental Christian? who gives a crap.
  3. well considering that you seem to be just about the only person in the world who thinks that pujols is a terrible person, i think "his act" will go over just fine in chicago, as long as he hits the ball.
  4. They shot 37.5% from 3, too. Also, Rose had one turnover in the last 44 minutes. Still, for the Bulls to win by 21 you'd think the Heat would have had to play terrible or the Bulls would have had to shoot lights out...and neither happened (OK, the Bulls shot 48% from 3 point range, but 42% from the field overall). the heat's rebounding was a joke. watch the gibson putback dunk as a prime example - there were two guys with a body on asik yet he still had inside position, and one other heat guy was halfheartedly running back toward the hoop but was nowhere close to blocking out gibson. i don't know what second chance points were but they gave up 18 offensive boards.
  5. yeah i get that people have a little concern about the contract length and all that, but really, if you're not going to throw a crap-ton of money at him then who are you waiting for? prince fielder is fat and probably will age poorly, plus he is already lousy defensively, adrian gonzalez is off the market, etc. if you pass on pujols that's how you end up trying to cobble together a winning club with the carlos penas and adam laroches of the world. if you want an elite hitter like miggy cabrera, adrian gonzalez, pujols, etc you have to be willing to pay a heavy price via trade or free agency.
  6. wonder if this is in response to jackson's injury, or if they've decided that he could use the vitters treatment (good contact skills, so rush him along and make him adjust at a higher level when he struggles)
  7. Highest +/- of all players in playoffs. well yeah it's easy when you're riding the coattails of real players to easy wins. i should clarify and say that it's not possible to do less at the offensive end. 30 minutes played, 1 shot (missed), 2 offensive rebounds. that's about the same production you'd get from a cardboard cutout.
  8. i don't think it is possible to do less with one's time on the court that what joel anthony does.
  9. i'll say this about iowa, if you go to one of their games you're not likely to be disappointed by the lack of offense.
  10. somebody who is both awesome and baseball and not interested in a long-term contract, apparently. that player can be found hiding in a cave with a unicorn and the tooth fairy.
  11. I hear you, but that elbow last year and a few other injuries I can't remember scare me a bit. Not a ton like he should be some Superman, but enough to not want me to give that deal. Make it six or seven years and we're talking. he's averaged almost 156 games a year in his first 10 years, that's extremely durable. if you're worried about his injuries then you pretty much are going to be worried about signing any player.
  12. if you're saying he'll be like 2011 derrek lee then you're saying that he would suck. derrek lee has been terrible. and what is that bet based on? just a complete guess as to how he'll age?
  13. The bulk of his production last year was unsustainable, but I don't think he'll continue to be anywhere near as bad as he's been so far this year. The problem with Colvin is figuring out where in the middle he'll fall production-wise. He's always been a difficult player to read (high OBP/low SLG one year in the minors, high SLG/low OBP the next), and I don't think we have enough information to evaluate him to this point. A trip back to AAA might help. what year was he a high OBP/low SLG player in the minors? his best OBP was .336 at any stop, and that was because he hit over .300 (probably an unusually high BABIP). to me it looks like he was very consistent in the minors - decent power, very few walks, with overall production fluctuating based on BABIP.
  14. you want john lackey? he'd fit in great on your staff; he's negative for the year.
  15. he probably is healthy, but if he lost a lot of strength from his illness then the options are to try to build up strength while pitching every few days, or just send him to extended spring training or whatever, basically write off this year as a waste and get him on a weight/nutrition program designed to get him stronger again.
  16. 4.2 IP, 6 Ks, 2 hits and a BB for no runs this season. good for him... probably a dream come true for him to pitch for the sox as well (since he is from milton, mass - southern suburb of boston)
  17. when sharp was on the flyers i thought he was a good defensive forward.
  18. pretty lousy day on the farm. my boy beliveau pitched really well in relief though.
  19. Because of his football commitment to Nebraska, the Cubs could spread out his bonus over 5 years like the Dodgers did with Zach Lee. it's not a bad idea, but lee got a little over $5m i think - which would be a reasonable amount to spend on that pick. over $10m (harper money) would be pretty crazy for a prospect who's definitely not harper.
  20. is koyie hill the worst player in major league baseball? the available answers are "yes" and "maybe"
  21. well i guess that is probably true, but the OBP and SLG are being propped up by the third-highest BABIP in baseball, so if that comes down then the OBP (cubs' BB% is the worst in baseball) and SLG (9th-worst ISO in baseball) will be pretty bad.
