  1. He's starting to hit too. Good numbers over the last 10 days or so. i noticed that he DH's a LOT, and raisin posted an excerpt from an AzPhil scouting report that said the donger might be the worst fielding OF he's ever seen.
  2. looks like i have a good chance to win this week :x
  3. he uses the phrase "talked about" repeatedly in his articles. i'm not a professional journalist, but shouldn't that phrase pretty much never be used in print? there are words like "discussed" that say the same thing without it sounding like you're just chatting with some guy on the street.
  4. apparently guys who don't walk very often are just unlucky that the damn pitcher keeps throwin strikes.
  5. iowa is down 5-2. dave bush was bad. our outfield of the future (brett jackson and colvin, obviously) is 1-8 with 7 K's. beef welington is having a nice game, 3-3 with a double and home run. tennessee won 6-5 in extras. ty wright had a big game - 4-5 with 2 doubles, a home run, the game-tying rbi (home run) and game-winning rbi (double). j-h ha went 1-4 with a walk, home run and K. vitters was 0-4 with the error that led to 3 unearned runs. dolis pitched well, 2 IP, no walks and 1 K. daytona is getting crushed 9-1. rhee pitched poorly. nobody has really done much on offense; bour is 2-3 and szczur 0-3 with a walk and SB. peoria got shut out 2-0. geiger had a pair of singles (and a pair of strikeouts); jokisch pitched fine. boise leads 2-1. wilengton cruz: 6 ip, 6 h, 1 r, 2 bb, 3 k. golden has a walk in 3 PA's; w. contreras is 1-1 with a walk and a triple. no idea what's going on in arizona. simpson started, allowed 2 unearned runs on an error by zapata (1 ip, 0 h, 2 r, 0 er, 1 bb, 1 k, 1 hbp)... zapata was PH for in the bottom of the first and then simpson was removed to start the second inning. marco hernandez sac bunted a guy over to second base and made the second out of the inning, which should delight davearm to no end.
  6. nelson cruz is having himself a game tonight... 4-4 with a double, home run and 8 RBI.
  7. kipnis was called up from the minors, so i dropped dan murphy, called up kipnis and added ryan lavarnway to the minors.
  8. daytona seemed to have a rain delay (the game started an hour and a half ago and is only in the third inning) and rhee came out to continue pitching after it. do not like. hopefully MiLB box scores are wrong about that.
  9. i'd feel a lot better about vitters if he were an average defender at 3b. he made his 20th error tonight and is on pace for about 30 this year, which is [expletive] horrendous for a 3b who sometimes plays 1b.
  10. plus he's comparing an event that happens every four years, and an event with an american team playing, with a stanley cup final game (played every year) that involved a team from new england and a team from western canada. wouldn't it make more sense to compare it to the ratings of the USA-canada gold medal hockey game? wait that wouldn't have worked out too well for da bum, because more than twice as many people watched that one.
  11. da bum talks soccer ratings!
  12. i will say this about kim ng, if she does get a GM job i hope she does really well at it. if she turns into dave littlefield or bill bavasi it could be a long time before another woman gets that opportunity.
  13. she's very bright and capable and should be considered for GM openings. i can't say that she'd be a top choice because i don't know enough about her, but a lot of smart people think very highly of her and it would seem that she's put in her dues to at least be interviewed (as she has been for the dodgers', mariners' and padres' openings.)
  14. Out of curiosity, why? I'd prefer not to have the extra $6-7 million sitting on the payroll in 2014 when we know he won't be productive enough then to be worth the money, but he could be worth close to $10 mil the next two seasons (especially if his defense rebounds). so you think he might be worth close to $10 million a year the next two years but then decline to be worth less than $0 the following year?
  15. i think pawelek is too busy hauling lumber at home depot with matt harrington.
  16. SSR saw will carroll's name, blacked out, and then when he woke up he was covered in blood with a dead hooker at his feet. but seriously, ari kaplan probably isn't GM material. and i say that with someone who been wanting for years to have the cubs take more advanced statistical analysis into account. i'd be happy with ari kaplan (i'm always going to use his full name because i don't want him to ever be confused with @thekapman) getting a bigger role... considering that our GM cares about stats like batting average with runners in scoring position and two outs, ari probably doesn't have that much of a voice. but a GM does need to be personable, have a good rapport with scouts and other GMs, and maybe the media too, and it doesn't sound like ari kaplan is that guy.
  17. Defensive metrics? You really think he's the second-best leftfielder in the national league? LOL. You seriously are pathetic.
  18. It's a lot less certain that his bat will play in RF. Gotta be better than Fuk brett jackson has gotta be better than a guy who's posted a .368 obp in his major league career???
  19. also other players will see soriano or ramirez loafing so they'll all stop trying too.
  20. Billy Hamilton has 72 steals this year alone. DeVoss will be valuable with a .320 OBP. He'll be a household name if he can ever get to .400. 72 SB is damn impressive for a guy with a .302 OBP. He could be pushing 100 if he could manage to get on base on a more respectable basis. yeah i was talking about him seeming to run at every opportunity (9 SB attempts in 7 games). devoss would seem to have more OBP and contact ability than hamilton, who's struck out almost once a game and has that crummy obp. of course, hamilton might be the fastest guy in baseball so devoss can't quite stack up there.
  21. devoss had a single; he stole second and then was thrown out trying to steal third. i think we might have our own billy hamilton here.
  22. obviously soriano isn't going balls out on every play, but given that he gets hurt a lot and has leg problems, it seems that would be a bad idea for him. the better question is, why would it make you feel better to see him sprint after a routine line drive single rather than jogging to field that routine line drive single that is still a single after he fields it and throws to second base?
  23. nobody is saying that soriano or whoever should never dive, but maybe it's not a great idea to boo aramis ramirez when he doesn't bust it down to first base at 100% when he hits a routine ground ball to second. or maybe it's not a great idea to heckle soriano when he slows down before plowing into a brick wall that is covered with only ivy. idiots seem to be unaware that when a player just goes balls out on every play, he's going to get hurt more often than if he exercises a little bit of caution.
