  1. da bum with some mad Christmas rhymes I hope he gets to walk under the mistletoe with a beautiful woman. yeah i found all the Christmas stuff puzzling since (a) he doesn't celebrate Christmas and (b) it's [expletive] september.
  2. i guess western illinois isn't very good? mizzou beat them 69-0 and outgained them 750 to 40.
  3. you'll never guess what the bum wrote about this week in the williston herald. something that all north dakotans are passionate about - the 49ers.
  4. He's been towing the Cub's party line all summer. That's what I'm doing? Towing the company line? Not only is he the team's best pitcher, but he's a 27 year old with a light at best injury history who's on pace to throw less pitches and innings this year than he has since he was 24. yes, and a large part of that reason is because he missed 2 or 3 starts with an elbow injury in may. i'm just trying to figure out who it's not ok to have throw 120 to 130 pitches in meaningless games. dempster it's okay because he's 34 (he's got a not-as-great injury history, which you didn't seem concerned about). garza is 27, so everyone who's in the mid to late 20s and older can do it?
  5. yeah it seems completely insane to me that you'd never put the ball, even on 4th and long from your own end of the field, but i'm not going to knock this guy without knowing the statistics behind it. of course, it helps to have a really good qb (judging by the video in the link, their qb was easily the best player on the field... he threw accurately and scrambled out of trouble easily)
  6. why on earth would he want to trade castro? besides the obvious reason of him being brown.
  7. aren't fly balls more likely to turn into outs than ground balls? i always though that was a big part of the reason that guys like aaron hill and carlos pena and chris young always have bad BABIPs. I assumed he meant lowest LD%, highest GB% the cubs are tied for the 6th lowest GB% in baseball and are 7th highest in FB%. they've been line drive and fly ball heavy relative to the rest of the league. (and garza isn't even part of the reason; he's been much more ground ball-heavy than he was in tampa, which is a good thing)
  8. what is the big deal about mcnutt possibly not getting one start in a playoff series???
  9. aren't fly balls more likely to turn into outs than ground balls? i always though that was a big part of the reason that guys like aaron hill and carlos pena and chris young always have bad BABIPs.
  10. i'm surprised he likes campana, the last name sounds too hispanic
  11. 6 unintentional walks in the last 5 games... baller
  12. that's kingkong's new thing, defending the manager who's running up stupid pitch counts in pointless games.
  13. for 14 games. and they can't bring whoever they trade for to the playoffs. right.
  14. dolis blows it, smokies lose 1-0
  15. Only the Cobs I don't know about you, but I sure haven't seen any team waste more chances over an aggregate season. Stunning. i'm pretty sure i have. like the red sox and yankees every [expletive] year because their players are on base all the time.
  16. this is pretty comical. the baybears got the leadoff hitter in the 9th on via a HBP and bunted him over to second, but then he was doubled off on a fly ball to left (guessing he thought it was going to drop in). then in the bottom of the 10th, the baybears got the leadoff hitter on base via a single, and he was promptly picked off first. the next hitter got on base via a jonathon mota error, but the next hitter grounded into a double play. so the baybears have had five batters reach base and still have 0 LOB and brought the minimum 30 batters to the plate.
  17. smokies are still scoreless in the ninth... they've had chances but left 8 guys on base. vitters has had a big game, going 0-for-4 with 2 K's and 3 LOB. the baybears (i think that's mobile's mascot) have only 2 hits in the game and both of those guys were out via doubleplay, so they've had the minimum 24 batters up through 8 innings (and obviously 0 LOB).
  18. well that's certainly a bad article. Excellent critique, sir. it was basically an article written to get attention by trolling the longhorns, since he assumed that texas haters would love it and texas supporters would hate it. obviously the writer's plan worked to perfection in your case.
  19. he was probably warned before the game since he was hollering at parra (who was a complete d-bag after hitting a home run off kuo last night and deserved to get drilled).
  20. clayton kershaw got thrown out of tonight's game for hitting geraldo parra, even though nobody else had been hit in the game. the back story is that in last night's game, parra almost got hit in the head by hong-chih kuo, then homered off him later in the AB and stood at home plate watching the home run until it landed (like not jogging slowly, he just stood there). kuo has gone from one of the best setup men in the game to a complete train wreck, struggling badly with his control all year. so the pitch at parra's face was not intentional. bill welke ruled that kershaw's pitch was intentional and threw him right out.
  21. well that's certainly a bad article.
  22. depends on how many people he kills that year drunk driving on the way home from wrigley.
  23. i love reed johnson's strikeout to walk ratio the last 2 seasons combined: 106 K/9 BB. he's walked about once every 50 plate appearances, so if you see reed johnson walk folks, you've just witnessed something pretty special.
  24. i like this one... a year after the cubs finish 15 or 20 games below .500, you're suggesting that they might be the #2 team in the national league, without having any knowledge about what the cubs do in the offseason.
