  1. :?: detroit and dallas play every year on thanksgiving, but they play other teams.
  2. yeah i like how in davearm's scenario the players are just eating [expletive] cold cuts for 2 meals a day during their two week road trips. "well i make millions of dollars a year, but if i go a little hungry and turn up at the ballpark at 2:30 there will probably be some sammiches laying around that i can dig into." maybe they go to soup kitchens or beg for food outside mcdonald's for breakfast and pocket the whole thing.
  3. General Error SQL ERROR [ mysqli ] Out of memory (Needed 3145598 bytes) [5] An SQL error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact the Board Administrator if this problem persists. usually it's not a long-term thing, just happens once, i hit reload and then it's back.
  4. whoever h. sosa is, he's blowing it... no talent bum skippy schumaker just hit a 3 run double and it's 5-4.
  5. cards are now down 5-0 to a lineup of: J.B. Shuck cf J. Altuve 2b B. Bogusevic C. Lee lf B. Wallace 1b J. Paredes 3b C. Barmes ss J.R. Towles c H. Sosa p
  6. of what? his monster .683 major league ops. but don't worry, he's still really young at just 27, and ready to bust out.
  7. this [expletive] is bad. braves are down 6-0 to the phillies. wtf. cards are down 1-0 early. after The Year That I Pretend Didn't Happen, i don't want the cards making the playoffs, even if they don't look like they'd do anything. red sox and rays both leading right now.
  8. apparently you can only trade latin american prospects named martinez for a latin american manager.
  9. Consider me sold. @thekapman is already lobbying for him to make next year's opening day roster.
  10. ok, ban yourself for this.
  11. grand final saturday (about midnight friday night your time)... geelong and collingwood, two best teams all year. collingwood has only lost twice this year, but both times were to geelong. the cats (geelong) won titles in 2007 and 2009, and most people figured their window was closed as AFL tends to run in 5 year cycles, but they've managed to stay very good even though many of their stars are "old" (with old being near 30 in the AFL). collingwood won the title last year and are very good and pretty young too. their coach is retiring after this year, somewhat controversially, because they'd continually been failing to reach grand finals under him despite many chances, so the club set up a succession plan where he'd step down after 2011 and hand over the reins to an assistant coach. now all of a sudden they've made two straight grand finals and could be back to back champs, and everyone seems to think that their coach wants to continue coaching. we'll see what happens... if he does coach again it won't be with them next year. geelong is a city about 45 minutes south of melbourne; that whole community is rabid cats supporters. collingwood is an inner city melbourne neighborhood; everyone in australia who isn't a magpies (black and white bird) supporter seems to hate them. collingwood supporters have the reputation of white sox fans; namely, toothless run-down thugs who are frequently drunk, on drugs, in jail or actively starting fights. http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/archive/index.php/t-84000.html i'm sure it's a dumb stereotype but it makes me laugh anyway.
  12. no idea why dallas played it so safe there... too much time on the clock and washington only needs a FG.
  13. cards lose in extra innings to the astros \:D/ \:D/ \:D/
  14. and hawk harrelson DID let larussa and dombrowski leave, and traded bonilla for jose deleon. i guess it's easy to criticize a guy who's kept his small market team in contention most of the time... maybe it's been long enough that hawk forgot the year he spent running the white sox into the ground when he wasn't too busy playing golf.
  15. i'd give up a player to NOT have ozzie managing my team.
  16. hopefully they murder each other
  17. i agree it's good as far as fan interest and excitement, but bad for fairness. making the ASG determine home field advantage for the world series has also been a big positive as far as the ASG ratings; do you also agree with that move?
  18. nobody is disagreeing with that, what people are disagreeing with is how much of a disadvantage is fair to a team that loses their division by a game. the 2004 red sox won 98 games, had the third-best record in baseball and went on to win the world series, but under this system even though they were 6 games better than either of the other division winners, they'd have been forced to use schilling in a one-game playoff against the a's, probably having like a 60% chance of even advancing to face the angels. seems like it punishes the #1 wild card team way too much for playing in a division with a really good team.
  19. the problem i have with it is that you can have a 98 win team, maybe the second-best team in their league, lose a division by a game and have to play a one game playoff to advance to the wild card round. say they're pushing hard to win the division so they don't have to play in that playoff, and they burn their ace in the last couple of days of the regular season - now they have to pitch their #2 or #3 against the other wild card, who might have made the playoffs without much trouble and have their ace ready to go. then the winner of the wild card game probably goes on to play the 5-game series only using their ace once. do not like the one game playoff idea.
  20. the whole team sees them being all brown and are like "well [expletive] it, i don't want to win any more"
  21. soccer10k must be devastated.... uc davis lost to hawai'i 56-14, but the hawai'i qb had gone for about 400 yards and 7 td passes at halftime.
  22. really? you lost by 1 point to a top 10 team and were a -3 in turnovers.
  23. yeah i voted for bojangles... food seemed fine and one of my best friends (recently passed away) really wanted to go there when we were driving through the south, because he liked the name. to be honest it's probably not the best but i just have good memories from it.
