  1. this has been a terrific match. pretty crazy that geelong could be the only team to beat collingwood this year, and they'd have done it three times. hawkins was pretty borderline to even make geelong's top 22 all year, he's having the game of his life. of course, that goes to show how deep geelong is that they can sometimes leave off a player like him.
  2. podsiadly is a pretty interesting story. he played almost his whole career in the VFL (basically the top level of australian football below the AFL), and was going to retire and take a strength and conditioning position with geelong's staff. he had a great year in the VFL, geelong decided to draft him, and he's become one of the better goal scorers in the league at an age when many guys are looking at retiring.
  3. AFL grand final today! Starts just after midnight eastern US time on Friday night... everybody watch it!
  4. You're either trolling or the hardest-headed person in existence. And I'm really not sure which. http://www.nature.com/scientificamerican/journal/v20/n1/images/scientificamericanmind0510-56sp-I8.jpg Look at the picture on the left. Is it a closed, intact triangle? If you think so, look at the picture on the right. It's the same structure, but viewed from a different angle. Knowing that, look back at the picture on the left. Do you still think it's a closed, intact triangle? PERTH!!!
  5. did she talk about any specific free agents by name? since she's an employee of the cubs, maybe she's not allowed to discuss the potential signing of players who are currently under contract with other clubs?
  6. isn't it kind of dumb to give up a bunch for halladay or verlander now? what if they suffer a major injury in the playoffs?
  7. The same thing I won last year:
  8. raging anus can sympathize with making ill-advised nsbb offers in the heat of the moment.
  9. cards in 3, brewers in 4 yankees in 4, rangers in 5 nlcs: cards in 4 alcs: yankees in 6 world series: cards in 2 (they win the first two games by 15+ runs and the yankees forfeit the remainder of the world series in humiliation). world series mvp: ryan theriot after the world series, bud selig and tony larussa announce selig's retirement, with larussa taking over as new mlb commissioner.
  10. welcome to 5 pages ago, whaaa whaaaaaaa  biggest collapses in mlb history: 1. 1995 angels 2. 2011 red sox 3. 2007 mets 4. 1951 dodgers 5. 2011 braves Interesting, I didn't know the Red Sox ranked that high. Is there a link? he discusses the angels and dodgers in the article you posted, and also mentions the mets as being 99.8% likely in 2007 (they blew it to the phillies). the red sox were 99.9%, according to the graph posted by soccer10k. the dodgers were 99.74%, and this year's braves were 99.64%.

  12. That Tampa tv announcer sucks. I probably would have lit myself on fire and jumped out of the booth, if not during the johnson hr then definitely with the longoria walkoff.
  13. Well red sox fans, up to you now.
  14. Hahahaha it's like the yankees just decided to [expletive] with the Red Sox in the worst way possible. "Hey let's get a big lead, then mostly blow it, but then get within the last strike of winning the game, but then give up a home run to a guy with a sub 400 ops this year. Then we'll go to extra innings, put a runner on third with none out and [expletive] that up, then give up a walkoff home run right after the red sox finish blowing their game."
  15. Papelbon probably should have tried a pitch other than "upper 90s fastball right down the middle"
  16. With the Cardinals. I was actually going to have a controlled demolition of Busch Stadium with the entire team inside (minus Cub first baseman Albert Pujols obviously). And then have someone drunk drive over the rubble.
  17. [expletive] off braves, I hope your whole team steps on a land mine
  18. Don't forget about one of our starters being left out there too long in a meaningless game. too long? is his arm still attached? I REST MY CASE but yeah, screw off 2011 cubs. 6th pick next year... back to back top 10 picks with one of the largest payrolls in baseball. guessing jim hendry will leave that off his resume.
  19. I'm probably biased but if I were Philly I'd be dying to play STL and therefore be trying to win this game. Their offense is real weak outside Albert and their pitching isn't good enough to make up for it. Arizona's got a scarier top of the rotation. probably the best thing is for the phillies to lose and then the cards to win the play-in game. but that would be bad for baseball since the cardinals represent everything that is evil in the world.
  20. i have definitely never heard of any of these guys pitching in the phillies-braves game. michael schwimer? julian de fratus? anthony varvaro? christhian martinez?
  21. i want the rays to win and the red sox to lose in the 9th inning, just to see if red sox fans will go and burn down yankee stadium in response.
  22. hahahahaha how much do red sox fans hate the yankees right now?
  23. well the yankees are apparently trying to become the first mlb team to have their entire pitching staff pitch in one game, so it's not surprising that one or two guys didn't have it tonight.
  24. yeah great work quade, the guy doesn't have it tonight, but better leave him in so you can give enough rest to those 20 bullpen pitchers who have spring training games starting in only 4 or 5 months.
  25. general nhl thread. i'm enjoying the brendan shanahan videos explaining suspensions (even though he doesn't exactly have a lot of charisma). http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=60&id=125225
