  1. thanks, i was really hoping that someone would make a thread about the 66th anniversary of something that doesn't matter at all.
  2. i know the d-backs have some lousy hitters, but is it really a good idea to have a pair of guys who OPS'ed around .650 at the top of the lineup in game 5? their 6-7-8 hitters were all better than willie bloomquist and aaron hill this year.
  3. phillies, for the love of God please beat the cardinals.
  4. many gun owners sort of hold a grudge against anti-gun policies and it manifests itself more often than not, as an economic boycott, that could be at play here, maybe he see's this as a chance to try to open a debate on gun control...just spit ballin' here. i can't say i wouldn't do the same there's a 99% chance you're giving him way too much credit. and america's gun policies are not anti-gun compared with basically anywhere else in the world.
  5. every time i see jeff carter in a bj's sweater, it seems like he has this look in his eye that says "why did you send me here??" in other news, the flyers beat boston in boston tonight... since the bruins are the defending stanley cup champs, i think we can safely say that the flyers are the best team in the nhl :-)
  6. he hit .111 in the series, so now he's a choker again. by the way, given his declining production, injury problems and lack of steroids, the yankees are really not going to enjoy paying a-rod $143m over the next 6 years. although it's not like the money is a big deal to them.
  7. did ventura ever say what he was doing when he pretty much put his head down and let ryan wail away on him? i'm convinced that he was on his way out to the mound, realized he was going after an old man who was a legend of the game, and just lost any heart he had to fight.
  8. I just looked it up since I wasn't sure on anything outside of hearsay... I guess in Chicago it's 1.5-2.0 did not know there were regional variations in dime bag weight. anyway, marijuana laws are dumb and should go away.
  9. isn't a dime bag like 5 grams? that would be only 5 bags.
  10. More than Texas State did too. No one beats an unfunny joke into the ground more than you guys here. You should be proud of yourselves. if you're looking for better comedy you could always just watch texas a&m play football in the second half.
  11. yeah but they were good at football that one year.
  12. i love that "gun laws" is the first thing out of his mouth.
  13. knocking "moneyball concepts" is stupid because it's all about exploiting market inefficiencies. like OBP wasn't valued enough so beane tried to exploit that, and then when the rest of the league caught up he tried to exploit defense not being valued enough. anyone who thinks it's bad to be getting more than market value out of a player is a moron who deserves to be ridiculed.
  14. kind of surprised that goldschmidt was #3... i guess the scouting reports finally caught up to the production.
  15. well i should defer to the expert :hello:
  16. Over 20 is a felony, as it's intent to distribute. 26 grams is more bags than one hand could fit, maybe, it's close. you think that you can't fit an ounce of pot into your hand???
  17. you're doing it wrong
  18. from that gammons article: apparently gammons isn't too familiar with some of the sportswriters in chicago.
  19. God good. Cheap ass. Which expensive piece of technology did you decide to use to call Derwood a cheap ass? he'd tell you, but that technology is not yet available or even known to people in your social class.
  20. many of the fans were cheering and wearing red, that can be very distracting!!!
  21. Paid Alabama Arkansas Auburn Florida Georgia LSU South Carolina Unpaid Kentucky Ole Miss Mississippi State Missouri Tennessee Vanderbilt Independent Texas State Obviously you'd have to restructure the divisions for basketball because of Coach Cal, but it could work. you're being very generous to kentucky and tennessee here. i think paid would have like 10-12 teams and unpaid would be vandy and maybe one or two others.
  22. ryan howard's complete inability to hit LHP really becomes a problem in the postseason. late/close, there's just no reason to have him face a righty.
  23. this is awesome: when you start typing out things like "i know the stat systems don't like him because he allows too many base runners" and "he seems to pitch better with guys on base for whatever reason", alarm bells should start going off in your head and you should immediately delete what you just wrote.
  24. he shouldn't have won it in 2007, unless you really believe he won 2 or 3 games that year with his defense.
  25. the stupid thing that larussa did was to have garcia intentionally walk carlos ruiz. hamels was at 117 pitches and was probably done for the day; there was no need to walk ruiz to force the phillies to PH for hamels and get him out of the game. ben francisco kind of sucked this year, but traditionally he's been a solid hitter against LHP. there's significant doubt about who you'd rather have facing a LHP, ruiz or ben francisco, and when there's not much to be gained, you don't put another guy on base.
