  1. those "prospects" are gonna have to be pretty good to be netting nolasco and morrison. darwin barney has little to no trade value; he's worth more to the cubs because his defensive contributions will be underrated.
  2. The only problem, literally the only problem with the '06 offseason was signing Soriano. Every other move was good. That '06 offseason also left us with the best team in the NL 2 years later.
  3. i tend to agree, in that there's no reason to hand out a bunch of monster contracts and screw the organization for years if 35 year old pujols or 35 year old sabathia aren't that good any more. i don't care about adding a big contract, but mortgaging the future to try to win immediately is a dumbass move when your core is pretty lacking.
  4. shock collar just hire j. walter weatherman to scare him when he does something stupid. "and THAT'S why you don't sac bunt with your #2 hitter in the first inning!"
  5. Hawk4Hall was constantly going on about Ricketts. JeffH, too. J.R. was on about the safari and the Toyota sign quite a bit, iirc. i don't think hawk4hall was involved too much. j.r. was definitely the lead complainer about the safari. jeffh just complains about everything, and since he apparently thought hendry was the anti-Christ, it's not surprising that he got mad at ricketts when hendry was retained last offseason. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=57738
  6. yeah, everyone who bitched about going on a safari or wrang their hands about possibly hiring chuck lamar or ned colletti or worried that the cubs would be going back to an $80-90m payroll should feel like a fool. ricketts absolutely gets it. there's a reason that he's enamored with the red sox - 10 years ago they had gone forever without winning a world series, had a huge market and fan base, an iconic but aging ballpark, and a history of incompetent management and personnel decisions. the red sox were always a big market team but weren't the cash cow they are today until they started experiencing regular success. ricketts knows that the way to build the cubs is to build from within, improving the procurement of amateur talent and filling the holes with trades and free agent signings. putting some work into wrigley will improve it aesthetically and allow the cubs to create new revenue streams. time for the sleeping giant to wake up.
  7. Meh. Too many good hitters get their D crapped on in the minors for me to worry too much...I'd rather they figure it out after his bat develops. A little 3B, a little LF, and a little 1B until one of them fits. he's not really a good hitter, and basically scouts are universal in panning his defensive ability. if he's going to give back 15 or 20 runs playing 3b, then you need to worry about it now. that raises the bar quite a bit for what kind of hitter he needs to be to be a positive contributor. even if he can be a league-average defender at 1b or lf, those positions need to hit and get on base at a significantly better rate than he's doing right now.
  8. and the ability to play not-terrible defense.
  9. i'm not aware of the relationship between poop frequency and happiness. as for the babies thing, i wrote this, which would tend to contradict your assertion: maybe i'm just the only one who thinks you seem to be perpetually cynical and angry.
  10. it really seems like you're doing a poor job of savoring the joy in your life.
  11. i think n&g's "people are happy" sensor went off again, and he has decided to try to ruin the fun.
  12. lol @ that announcer, "if arizona goes 5-1 they make a bowl game, it's gonna be much harder winning those games if you've got players that are ejected." that team sucks, they're not going 5-1.
  13. Interesting how no cardinal fans stopped by the game thread after game two
  14. Wait wait wait...there's other ways to build a good player and then a good team? Wtf? Way to keep up your crusade against the zero people who are saying that high OPS is the only way to build a good team.
  15. Can't believe this bunch of drunk-driving dickheads is about to accidentally win their second world series in six years. Fuckin miserable.
  16. Someone woke up on the wrong side of the globe this morning. it's nighttime here, fool. and i'm just saying that a guy who will e-mail north dakota state university professors and indiana radio announcers to settle message board disputes should really be able to solve this one.
  17. I doubt Nick Cafardo is too worried about stalkers or even people that would care enough to prank call him...even if there were slim chance said stalker would figure out what hotel it was. Someone wanna guess how many hotels are 19 stories or higher in chicago? I'm gonna guess that it's enough to make even the stalkiest stalker too lazy to figure out. this sounds like a job for kyle, there's no way he has enough of a life not to do this. he goes on vacation to chess tournaments for God's sakes.
  18. is clown kenney a member of that circus?
  19. The Red Sox are going to let $6.5 million burn, and that's certainly worth more than the entirety of Australia. laugh now; when you're enslaved by australia in 5 years we'll see who's laughing.
  20. apparently oakland popped in some bengals game tapes from like 5 years ago and didn't watch anything since then.
  21. if we end up with someone like hahn or coppolella because we wouldn't part with trey mcnutt, i may have to go burn down wrigley.
  22. lol, BASEBALL skills and a BASEBALL athlete.
  23. They always have? i don't know why they would count interception returns when determining who has the most return touchdowns.
  24. We should definitely have t-shirts made. We just need a catchy slogan. Tss. Root fa Lake or jump in a river or ocean or somethin. boy with comedy like this i am just stunned that you don't get community and parks and rec.
