Well put. It seems like people are more upset about this because Theo and Jed did it and not Hendry. Fact is, Hendry gave $900,000 to a guy coming of a 74 OPS+ season, and while I thought the $1.5 was legit (my bad) it seems like they might give him what... $1.2 or $1.3 million... after a 122 OPS+ season? I don't expect Johnson to fully recreate those numbers one iota, but we could do a whole lot worse, and there aren't many options out there that can do a whole lot better at the price. nobody would argue with the reed johnson signing if he puts up a line similar to last year. but that line was based on an absurd amount of luck. he walked 5 times and struck out 63 times for God's sakes. as tim has already pointed out, his luck-neutral line would have been .252/.295/.396, which is terrible.

"frontline abilities"? he has a career 92 era+ and is 26 years old. i don't care if he was a top prospect before; the chances of him reaching the level people expected are extremely slim at this stage. -

I don't care about that. I don't care if they lose every game next year. A janitor (now retired and incapable of testimony due to dementia) witnessed sexual conduct between Sandusky and a young boy, told a co-worker about it, and all the co-worker did was to give the eyewitness the number of someone to contact if he so chose. I mean, even Paterno did better than that. If we are going to get indignant and wish bad things on everyone who could have done more, let's be morally consistent and go after everyone, from the janitor to the school president. Your posts are riddled with as much nonsense as the ones you usually make during bears/hawks/illini losses, so I'm going to assume that you're either drunk or despondent about Illinois women's volleyball.

This trade went down like 5 minutes ago, how does heyman know we're interested in rizzo? The fact that he's a good prospect and was once in organizations led by the cubs' president and GM? I suspect he's just assuming we're interested without any real knowledge.

So to be clear, it is your position that most of the people who knew or had a good sense about what Sandusky was doing should not be punished? That only the college football coach Sulley has heard of should be punished?

Normally I'm opposed to capital punishment but in the case of people like joe paterno I'm willing to make an exception. What Paterno has done over the entire course of this thing has been pretty awful, I grant you that. However, it seems like a lot of people (not necessarily talking about NSBB) are more mad at Paterno than Sandusky. Yes, Paterno was an awful, horrible piece of crap for not doing anything and allowing it to continue, but Sandusky was the guy actually doing it. ....because Sandusky stands to get what he deserves, while Paterno is more in line to get off without real punishment. That irks people. I know it irks me. Being fired and having his coaching legacy ruined is a real punishment. that was necessary fallout from either allowing a kiddie porn ring to exist or being part of it himself, i'm not sure which yet. there was no real punishment for him. the penn state janitors, are you serious? How cute, the guy who doesn't know what he's talking about doesn't know that a janitor witnessed Sandusky with a boy in the shower sometime around 1999 and told other janitors about it.

He just turned 22 in August. The Padres got really good value in this trade, but they sure have a glut of 1b in the majors/upper minors with alonso, blanks, Guzman and rizzo. I don't think rizzo has played anything but 1b and alonso, blanks and guzman are marginal in lf, which is putting it very generously. If they see alonso as the 1b of the future then I'd imagine 2 of blanks, Guzman and rizzo would be going away soon. Rizzo should have the most value given his age and AAA performance - his terrible big league audition being the main black mark against him.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU Claude giroux is also concussed. I've been impressed with the flyers this year, bryzgalov has been kind of ordinary and Pronger has missed a lot of time, giroux is now out, and the flyers still have the best win % in the league. If Pronger retires his salary would count against the cap, so he would probably just stay on long term IR and spare the flyers the cap hit.

Bizarre. When was the last time a major program hired a coach without even the smallest rumor coming out beforehand? I'm fully prepared to be underwhelmed The guy I got this from posted on facebook "FOS/BWI boards saying PSU has hired a coach" and he's definitely not the type to troll facebook. He doesn't really have any inside knowledge but he does use the pay boards on rivals/scout and is one of the biggest PSU fans I know (played qb in high school for a school not far from PSU). He said something about a top 5 salary and people would be "moderately impressed" but again, that is message board chatter so take with the appropriate grains of salt. -

i'm not really saying what they should do, more what i think they will do. teams generally don't relegate high-paid star players to part time duty until their production has reached poor levels, and soriano isn't quite there yet.
