  1. you read what you wanted to read, even after i emphasized the point of my original post, that it would be foolish for a school with integrity issues to hire a coach who many people regard to have poor integrity. by the way, sneaky and ssr just made snarky posts that did nothing to back up your argument. i can't say what jersey posted because i don't read his posts. i also hope everyone can appreciate the irony of a notre dame supporter criticizing someone for possibly thinking their school is too good for somebody.
  2. you may be happy with winning a national championship, at the cost of it being vacated later and having a couple of years of bowl bans to follow. i'd rather have my team win the capitol one bowl and not worry about the win being vacated when it turns out that our star running back's family was living in a house that an agent bought them. you're obviously not concerned about that kind of activity. i'm not going to say that one is right and one is wrong, just that i'd prefer that my school not be involved in it. to each his own.
  3. i've always said that if there is anyone who can appreciate winning with honor and integrity, it's a usc fan.
  4. i just don't like comparing him to the league-average 2b from last year. 2b in the NL was atrocious last year - the AL was 20 points better in OPS and the average NL 2b OPS was down almost 50 points from 2010. it was an anomalously bad year for NL 2b. aside from a strong april, his numbers were very anemic, so i'd be concerned that his true mlb numbers are not quite as good as what he put up last year. i'd really prefer to upgrade 2b and make barney the super sub who can spell 3b, ss, 2b and come in as a defensive replacement when the cubs are leading in the late innings.
  5. I don't even recall him helping out with the Special Olympics how do you know you need some new material? you're stealing jokes from kyle j. mayhugh.
  6. yeah, i can't figure out if GR is trolling or just is unable to connect the dots himself. -nick saban is regarded as a snake oil salesman. he's repeatedly committed himself to coaching jobs, only to leave them soon after when another offer comes along. obviously if he ditched alabama for a lucrative offer, he'd add another mark to this record. -ped state (see what i did there?) has been accused by many people of putting the football program and money ahead of the public embarrassment of a former coach being a child molester. hiring a coach whose ethics have been widely questioned, and hiring him for an unheard-of salary, would obviously be taken as "business as usual, college football is king" by the critics.
  7. yeah barney's second half of .238/.286/.328/.613 last year would suggest that he's far from "proven league average." to be league average he's going to have to be one of the best defensive 2b in baseball. and maybe he is, but ideally you would upgrade from him rather than settle for his anemic bat.
  8. garza, mcnutt, ha and russell for rizzo, gose and "some kid hoyer seems to overvalue" would be a fireable offense. ed lynch would laugh at that deal for God's sakes.
  9. beckett hoyer is the whitest name in history.
  10. haha i guess when neither defense can stop anybody you pretty much have to go for it on fourth and short no matter where you are on the field.
  11. 1300 total yards! can we get to 1500?
  12. now 95 points and over 1000 yards of offense with 6 minutes still to play in the third quarter. hilarious.
  13. lol @ the defense in this baylor-washington game. not even halfway through the third quarter and there are 80 points and nearly 900 yards in offense between the two teams.
  14. meh, what's the point? it's clear he loves chicago and playing for the cubs. if he is willing to sign a team-friendly deal, then just give him a no trade clause. i don't see the point of pissing off one of the most loyal players to the franchise so that you can grab a couple of prospects that probably won't amount to much.
  15. yeah might not want to bank on that considering that he turned down a deal to the phillies last season.
  16. boy way to piss this game away notre dame.
  17. yes that is exactly what i'm saying, top notch reading.
  18. rizzo had cancer, that and the age thing are pretty much the only differences between them.
  19. my penn state friend who mentioned the stoops thing emailed me today to tell me the new rumor is that penn state is going to give nick saban 60% more than any other college coach and pry him away from alabama. he thinks this one is pretty unlikely though. where on earth is your friend getting this crap? yeah i'm sure a school that has everyone questioning its integrity is going to throw several million dollars a year at nick saban.
  20. i'm not sure what kind of trade interest other teams would have in bird.
  21. i'm going to make a bold prediction and say that bill o'brien will be the next penn state coach
  22. no, that's pretty damn high for a middle reliever. he's a pretty good middle reliever but not an elite one. he's averaged barely more than 50 innings the last 3 years and his whip during that time is 1.355. he should probably be making like $2-2.5m.
  23. barney for hudson and rizzo? they might bite on that if their management is comprised of abject morons.
  24. stoops has had other opportunities to leave oklahoma for high-profile coaching gigs; i'm pretty sure he's not leaving for a school that is recovering from a pedophile scandal.
