  1. yeah i really like gagne too... richards would just sting because i thought he'd be flyers captain for a really long time and he was just traded. didn't realize hextall was with the kings org. i picked the kings before the season and there are lots of ex-flyer connections, so i'm definitely on their bandwagon the rest of the way.
  2. it was a lot easier to take the wildness from our bullpen when there were a bunch of power arms who could strike out opposing hitters. this year's bullpen has one of the worst K rates in MLB and also one of the worst walk rates. the cubs' bullpen has a K/BB ratio of 1.19 (coming into tonight's game). the next worst team is the angels at 1.68! so yeah, this very well may be the worst bullpen in baseball.
  3. remember the maine! (remember to not let him pitch for the cubs any more)
  4. Matt Wieters wants to know why you never call anymore. please refer to him as matt "over 900 ops while playing elite defense at the most demanding position on the diamond" wieters.
  5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPhJOVDgeAk *facepalm* hahahahahahaha
  6. Pretty annoying that Sullivan would rather criticize Castro's "inability" to lay down a bunt rather than the decision to have him do so, but w/e. yeah shocking that a guy who hasn't been asked to bunt in a game in a year and a half didn't do so effectively.
  7. So my options are probably either watch the devils or rangers skate around with the cup, or watch Richards and carter do it less than a year after being traded by the flyers. Fannnnntastic. I still love Richards though, so go kings.
  8. who else makes your top 5 besides kemp and lahair?
  9. mike trout has a .931 ops now. he's 20 years old. he and harper are going to be a lot of fun to watch.
  10. fat chance. matt cain just signed a 6/$127.5m deal without hitting the market. that's pretty much the floor for a hamels deal. if we're talking about 6 years, i'd guess something around 6/$140m.
  11. all mlb teams play in big cities with plenty of nightlife around. cardinal players keep getting loaded and the st louis nightlife sucks.
  12. lake's k/bb ratio was appalling last year, so hopefully these early strides he's made in that area are real. i still worry about guys like that being exposed by advanced pitchers.
  13. probably forgot to wash it off before taking a piss. i've done that before. it's... not pleasant.
  14. derek lowe threw a complete game shutout today but had no strikeouts... 22 outs on the ground, including four GIDP. he threw something like 10 changeups and the rest of his 127 pitches were sinkers.
  15. as a chronic alcoholic and drug user, knowing how it treats a body as it ages, i wouldn't go past 3 years you already said drug yeti, chronic falls under that umbrella
  16. campana is fun as hell. i know he may be a 4th/5th outfielder long term, but it's fun to watch him get on base and then run wild. he'll be interesting if he can keep his K rate down and walk a little more. samardzija has been really good, though i still have to wonder what would have happened if they'd stuck with him as a starter instead of yanking him around so much.
  17. that's not a bad idea if you replace jerome williams with mike trout.
  18. one of the more encouraging things about epstein (and i assume hoyer) is that they understand luck and are willing to be patient on young guys who run into a rough patch of luck. i remember dustin pedroia coming up for the red sox having a terrible slash line for the first month or so in 2007, after not hitting for beans in his late 2006 audition. at that point it would have been easy for them to send him down - after all, they were a win-now team (they won the world series in 2007) and pedroia's first 200 plate appearances had been pretty damn bad. but he wasn't striking out much and had a good minor league pedigree, so they stuck with him and he ended up winning the rookie of the year. i feel like too many past cub front offices would've given up early and pegged that type of player as AAAA way too quickly.
  19. everyone with a breaking ball projected as 50 or greater on the scouting scale was apparently in possession of a curveball of doom.
  20. enough with the [expletive] curveball of doom.
  21. dylan bundy had his worst start as a professional tonight: 5 ip, 2 h, 1 r, 0 er, 0 bb, 3 k, 1 hbp. season numbers: 25.0 ip, 4 h, 2 r, 0 er, 2 bb, 36 k, 1 hbp, 0.00 era, 0.24 whip.
