  1. win or lose, starlin's walk makes this game is a success.
  2. home run for vitters. only partial credit though, as it was first pitch swinging.
  3. i know a lot of people have been joining his bandwagon, but i have a hard time taking him seriously without some significant improvements in plate discipline. not to mention finding a home defensively.
  4. Hawk was dead wrong, though. AJP spiked Zobrist and he got drilled, and that's where it should have ended. Wegner tossed the pitcher to keep things from escalating (ostensibly). Wegner should have warned both teams after AJ got drilled. Wouldn't it have been fair to warm them or was the ump assuming that both teams knew this thing was supposed to be over? it really doesn't matter. if an umpire deems that a pitcher was intentionally trying to hit a batter, he can throw him out of the game. often a warning is issued as a courtesy, but if you come out and immediately throw a ball behind a batter, that's really damn obvious and you can't get your panties in a bunch about getting tossed.
  5. oops brett jackson struck out, minor league system sucks again.
  6. wonder if he'll mention rosario, who's having a big game (1 hit allowed and 8 K's in 5 IP)
  7. Now that is what I like to hear. And just to add to the Goldstein-initiated lovefest: Kevin Goldstein ‏@Kevin_Goldstein Baez home run cleared the Pepsi sign. As long a shot as I've seen in this park since Jason Stokes played here. hopefully he turns out better than jason stokes
  8. petition to remove dumb ass 3-player DL limit this offseason.
  9. having a good year and a third really doesn't necessarily mean no fluke.
  10. hopefully that is for reasons other than the vitters home run, because frankly that would be an overreaction.
  11. vitters home run off jeremy jeffress on a 3-1 pitch
  12. FWIW, Harper has a lower K rate, higher BB rate, and Trout is benefiting from a somewhat high .356 BABIP. And Harper doesn't turn 20 until after this season. Both are awesome, though. i think trout has always had a high babip in the minors, though, and given that he's blazing fast and hits a lot of line drive, .356 doesn't seem too crazy. maybe a little high, but i'd expect him to be a high babip guy.
  13. hayden simpson sucks so badly.
  14. It was definitely fair. You could see the mark the ball made in the chalk when they showed it later in the game. Yet another reason to add replay. i'm fine with bad calls that go against the cards. maybe add replay except when the cards get screwed. call it the don denkinger rule.
  15. also, watching the video highlights on mlb, and beltran hit a line drive down the 3b line that caught the foul line chalk and should've been called fair. it was a tough call for the ump, but sure looks like it caught the outside of the chalk.
  16. and just as importantly, cardinals lose!
  17. i can't think of a major league pitcher who got this late in a game with a no-hitter and was removed. i think you just have to let him go for it, and if he gives up a hit then take him out immediately. while santana isn't a big part of the mets' future, he is signed through next season and if he keeps pitching really well, he could fetch a really nice prospect package. And that's the part that would make it tough for me. That's almost something where the GM just calls down to the dugout and says get him out before he gets hurt and destroys his trade value. i'd just hope his arm doesn't fall off until after he's dealt. i see he has a full NTC, but presumably he'd waive it to pitch for a contender. the mets should really shop him around this year, since he's been mostly healthy and effective. also, they can probably bump him back a day to rest after this.
  18. 8-pitch at bat for jackson, ended with a fly out. this after a 7-pitch walk in his previous at bat. i'd really like the cubs' offense to resemble those offenses that the yankees and red sox had for many years - part of the reason that their games against each other would take 3.5 hours. both teams were loaded with patient hitters who had lots of deep at bats, which meant that starting pitchers labored and the bullpen would often be deployed by the 6th or 7th inning. even when pedro was pitching gems against the yankees, he'd still throw 120 pitches in a 2-hit shutout.
  19. i can't think of a major league pitcher who got this late in a game with a no-hitter and was removed. i think you just have to let him go for it, and if he gives up a hit then take him out immediately. while santana isn't a big part of the mets' future, he is signed through next season and if he keeps pitching really well, he could fetch a really nice prospect package.
  20. i'd feel more confident if i were going to come anywhere close to my 7 starts allowed. right now my pitchers have made 2 and i only have 2 more scheduled to go this weekend - i had no 2-start pitchers, jaime garcia is being skipped because of an elbow issue and halladay was DL'ed. the only way i can get more than 4 starts this week is to release a player, but i really don't have dead weight on my roster.
  21. they shouldn't have to do that. if big-time pull hitters keep getting robbed of hits by the extreme shift, all they have to do is lay down a bunt on the left side of the diamond and they have an automatic single. if they can slash a line drive the opposite way then it's probably at least a double. the onus is on the power hitters to adjust; if they continue to hit into the shift, then that's their choice.
  22. oh, can i delete fake shelby miller from the eyes of texas' team? by this stage we've established that the fake one has been there for like 2 years while the real one was created earlier (than the fake one) and has been owned by 3 different people and traded twice.
  23. junior lake is 2-3, but was caught stealing for the 6th time (against only 3 SB) and has 0 BB/10 K in his last 10 games.
