  1. rationalized it by assuming that longoria will be a cheap keeper, so i'm really getting two years of him. tried giving up other prospects or my first round pick but no dice. need to find people other than tim to make big trades with as he seems to end up ripping me off in the final analysis.
  2. by the way, i guess that worked out pretty well since i'm in first place.
  3. coletti isn't really known for being a moron in trades. the only really bad trade he made that i can think of is giving up carlos santana to get casey blake.
  4. boy i'm sure ethier had to think long and hard about whether to accept that offer.
  5. good, hope he wastes an exempt year.
  6. their offense was spectacularly bad for the first month and a half or whatever - it's still been pretty damn bad, although mccutcheon is awesome. they've been winning a lot of close games. half their pitchers are heavily outpitching their peripherals. their xFIP is like 3/4 of a run higher than their ERA. by pyth, they should be 8 games behind the cards; instead they're 2 games ahead. basically it's a lot of smoke and mirrors and unlikely that they'll stay in first, but i suppose crazier things have happened.
  7. you can tell from that one swing that his swing can still get long at times, but it also looks a lot more compact?
  8. the only comfort i take in having traded mike trout is that tim only has him for free through 2014.
  9. obviously don't know anything about him, but a 16 year old lefty named carlos rodriguez is off to a good start with DSL cubs 1: 10 ip, 7 h, 1 er, 2 bb, 13 k.
  10. from BP's monday ten pack: and not a cub prospect, but...
  11. top players like cj wilson and cj wilson?
  12. hopefully my team will not [expletive] the bed this week! also, it's annoying that i had like 4 2-start pitchers last week and now i have 1, who happens to be my worst starter (so i am playing randall delgado against the yankees tonight and hoping for a non-disaster). also, how are we handling trades with brian (new guy)? trading some of his top players for good value is clearly the best thing for the future of his team, but - through no fault of his own - he probably doesn't have a good idea of what constitutes good value, since he hasn't been a part of this league for more than a week. i'd be happy to make offers with him, but don't want to be perceived as trying to rip off the new guy.
  13. he already IS a really good one. he's third in WAR among american league OF and spent the first month of the season in the minors. there's no need for the "going to be" part of your statement.
  14. i agree with this, and in a normal situation throwing around numbers like $30m would be an outrageous overpay, but we're a month from a system where amateur (international) free agent spending is strongly capped. pretty much a perfect storm for jorge soler, that's for sure.
  15. oh yeah i forgot the tigers were having cabrera waddle around at 3b this year. you're right, for fantasy purposes miggy is definitely better.
  16. i gave up two superior prospects (including one who's blowing up major league pitching already) to get a package that was inferior (longoria is probably equal to miggy when taking position into account, but he's also missing a month more; shields is worse than price but i also got napoli). i know it's cool that you just got two stars for a pretty weak package, but i'd suggest beefing up what you are sending (to replace desmond), because it sounds like the rest of the league thinks it's a bad deal and shouldn't go through.
  17. "not breaking any rules" is true, but you made a trade with someone who just joined the league, and everyone else in the league finds it to be a steal by the established owner from the newbie. we'll see what you guys come up with to replace ian desmond.
  18. yep, that's an awful deal. taijuan walker is an excellent prospect, but singleton is probably not even top 50 and desmond has no value to the eyes of texas since he's out of exemptions. i hadn't made any trade offers to him since he's new and hasn't been active, but i could have blown that offer out of the water, and i suspect many other owners would have as well.
  19. $40 million seems like too much unless we have an incredible scouting read on him that says he's getting close to MLB ready. You are really cutting away at the risk:reward ratios at that point. Holy [expletive], they have to spend money at some point, Kyle. rather than spending wildly on amateur talent they could be more fiscally prudent and enjoy their weekends at regional chess tournaments.
  20. even if it's a pitch around, at least he's not swinging. he doesn't seem like a guy who has much natural patience, but hopefully he becomes a good enough hitter that pitchers nibble against him and he learns to lay off and take some freebies.
  21. Ah son of a bitch, in my pitcher shuffling I ended up with Hammel in today's lineup even though I wanted just Shields and Lee. Posting this early (Lee hasn't started yet and Hammel just effective .5 IP) so y'all know I'm trying to cheat. I'll remove Hammel's points from my total score after the game.
  22. lol even figure skating thinks this judging was shameful.
  23. kings if you blow this series i will burn down the entire earth.
