  1. charcer burks made his debut, pinch hitting for jeffrey baez. he struck out.
  2. how reliable is that? the guy wrote this on his blog: that seems really odd to me. i mean, i can understand them being willing to trade them, but this makes it sound like they got butt hurt about him wanting a second opinion and basically told him to [expletive] off. hard to imagine the cubs conducting business like that.
  3. Posted on the bottom of the previous page, sir. why would i read the previous page? that's old news.
  4. good interview with jason parks on bleacher nation: http://www.bleachernation.com/2013/07/01/a-chat-with-baseball-prospectuss-jason-parks-on-cubs-prospects-international-additions-and-so-much-more/
  5. but really, as long as the return isn't a bad contract above the value of marmol's (and we're not run by abject morons, so it won't be), it's pretty much impossible to be upset at what comes back. everyone just assumed that marmol was gone and the cubs were eating the rest of the contract. if they save 50 bucks, hey great.
  6. i always said the cubs needed more players from australia.
  7. davell, do teams have to wait until July 2nd to acquire IFA money? Yes. what a dopey system. teams have to wait until the day that most high-profile IFA will sign to acquire enough money to sign those guys. who thought up this nonsense?
  8. i feel like almora has had a few OF assists already. Lord knows where i'd find that stat though. BBRef says 4 entering tonight. well that's a lot easier than i thought it would be. wtg bbref.
  9. i feel like almora has had a few OF assists already. Lord knows where i'd find that stat though.
  10. i did it with tyler glasnow too. if a person isn't in the database you just post something here or send a message to a person with commissioner powers, they create a dummy player who goes onto your roster until CBS brings the actual player into their database. i have no idea why they don't have every player in minor league baseball in their database. my assumption is that any player drafted in the 2013 draft or signed after whenever we did our minor league draft (feb/mar) is ineligible to be signed, but everyone else is fair game.
  11. just give us julio urias, i mean he's only 16 years old, who can project those guys? c'mon ned.
  12. i always thought drabek profiled more as a bullpen arm. which i guess would be fine given the status of our bullpen right now.
  13. tough news. this might knock sweeney's asking price down to 3 years, $10-12 million.
  14. i created julio urias (dodgers) and added him to my minor leagues. i assume i'm allowed to have him since he was signed as a prospect in august 2012.
  15. there is no way the pirates would trade gregory polanco for nate schierholtz.
  16. rain delay in daytona, probably going to have their doubleheader washed out. \:D/
  17. where the players stand in their arbitration progression is a lot more relevant than their ages. a guy like neil walker, who's been an extreme bonus for the pirates, becomes a lot less of a bonus when he's making $8-10m in two years. right now they've only got cost certainty with two players, tabata and mccutcheon. they should really be looking to make more of those deals with the likes of marte, alvarez and cole.
  18. I advise you not to read the horse [expletive] prior to that about the Cubs to which he refers. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/jason-kipnis-cleveland-indians-second-baseman-all-star-team-consideration-notes-063013 i like the first paragraph of that article: wait let me think. the name jason kipnis appears in the hyperlink. and is in the title of the article. and there's a big photo of jason kipnis directly beneath that. is it jason kipnis?!?!?
  19. bartolo colon has had a pretty fascinating career. went from a power pitcher with high walk and strikeout rates, to a guy who looked like he was pitching and eating his way out of the league, and now has turned into an effective control artist. derek lowe was another guy who went through some wild ups and downs - plus throw in an all-star year as a closer - but it looks like he's hit the end of the road finally.
  20. he threw fastballs on 78% of his pitches last year, which was 4th most among pitchers with 90 innings. the other guys who did it just have better fastballs, in terms of movement and/or velocity (this is shown in their pitch values on fangraphs). while pomeranz has shown positive value from his fastball, his curve and change had very poor results last year. i guess you can look at this two ways - he's never going to be a good mlb pitcher if his secondary offerings don't improve, but on the other hand, he really wasn't that bad considering that he had only one above-average pitch and he had to rely on it heavily. i think at worst you'd get a dynamic bullpen arm who smashes LH batters, and maybe if his secondary pitches come along then a lot more. but i'm pretty sure the rockies are at the point where they're giving him away for peanuts.
