  1. fox and friends is the fox news national morning show.
  2. some real fair and balanced reporting by that guy. wouldn't be a day ending with Y if fox news isn't getting butt hurt about some perceived persecution of Christians.
  3. ben wells is rolling. 5 ip, 1 h, 0 r, 0 bb, 3 k, 8 GO/2 FO. last 4 starts: 24 ip, 12 h, 3 er, 1 bb, 16 k. IMO he should be getting a bit of buzz (although i don't know much about how his stuff has looked). still only 20 years old and faring well at high A ball. seems like a guy who's got a decent shot at becoming a #3/4 workhorse with that heavy fastball.
  4. also that he goes completely overboard bashing an umpire for a bad call that goes against the white sox, but is practically effusive with praise when the bad call favors them.
  5. ronald torreyes in 2012: .264/.326/.385/.711 ronald torreyes in 2013 (with cubs): .260/.337/.381/.718 hell of a "leap" forward.
  6. and 5 (would be 6 if 2013 draft counted) from the team that just departed the NL central.
  7. so wtf is that, those guys aren't able to travel to canada?
  8. valbuena is 5th among NL third basemen in WAR and vitters has barely played all season. what a weird rant.
  9. So a 2B they don't need who has a 27 OPS+, a back of the rotation pitcher who has a career 5.4 K/9 ratio, an OF they don't need who has a 30 OPS+, and a promising pitching prospect who is just now returning from Tommy John surgery and is at best still at least a couple years away even if he's healthy and performing extremely well. For David Price! I think we can beat that. it probably depends on whether teams think they are getting vintage david price or 2013 david price who had a strained triceps and has shed 2mph off his average fastball from last year.
  10. how is the all star break handled, is there a short week 16 or a long week 15/17?
  11. jeff keppinger is DH and batting 5th? lolololol
  12. i would agree with this, especially considering that these are 16 year olds and the bust rate is going to be high. it wouldn't surprise me, though, if it's really hard to find a guy who gives superstar production (something the cubs could desperately use) in signing the $50k, $100k guys. guys like felix hernandez and miguel cabrera may just have certain physical attributes or skills (i.e., hand-eye coordination) that are already apparent at age 16. so maybe to find a superstar you may need to look at a heavier investment, but the find good or solid players the quantity approach is the way to go. i think the plan tim mentioned earlier is a good one, where you go over in odd years (but sign a large number of big-dollar guys) and then just sign a lot of the $50k to $250k guys in even years.
  13. do not want gary brown. we already have 4th outfielders in the system.
  14. loosen's last 4 starts: 27 ip, 9 h, 1 r, 5 bb, 31 k. i know he flopped badly at AA, but he's 24 years old. might as well just put him back there since he's beating up on A ball, and let him sink or swim.
  15. ptbnl going to cubs: ian dickson ptbnl going to nationals: henry rodriguez
  16. ba top 50 prospects: http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/midseason-prospect-update-top-50-prospects/ 10 Javier Baez ss Cubs Earlier this year became second Florida State Leaguer to hit four home runs in one game. 16 Albert Almora of Cubs Missed first month with hamate injury, but has made up for lost time since returning. 18 Jorge Soler of Cubs Will miss two months with stress fracture, but talent is too good to ignore. ETA - [expletive] you, CT.
  17. thanks for weighing in, jim. how's that position with the yankees treating you?
  18. from the feldman trade, i suspect this is a big part of the trade plans for some of the lesser guys like hairston, feldman, probably schierholtz, etc. the bullpen is such a train wreck and there really don't seem to be many legitimate power arms in the high minors, at least as far as guys who are performing well and knocking on the door. mcnutt and zych have good arms, for example, but have been pretty spotty. seems like a good plan to me. you'll find guys like hairston and schierholtz on the market every year. the cubs really seem to have amassed enough quality pitching in the low minors; now it's time to fill in at the upper minors and get a few guys who might turn into good middle relievers.
  19. so who comes up, mcdonald? also, assuming that kris bryant signs, would he get a major league deal? are they still doing that under the new CBA?
  20. zastryzny's first inning: announcer really liked his offspeed stuff.
  21. blackburn done: 5ip, 5h, 1r, 2bb, 4k. zastryzny on for his debut.
  22. He was BA's 53rd best prospect in the 2010 draft, the year he came out of high school. He was pegged as a probable top-5 pick before this season. He had a 1.081 OPS his freshman year with the new bats, playing in USD's pitcher's park. He was a first team All-American last year, a season in which he had an 1.154 OPS. I said he was my favorite college prospect in the 2013 draft last May. I can see why you missed the Bryant discussion in that thread; you were busy posting about the wrong draft in that very same thread. yeah but to be fair, how would find out all of this information unless you were some sort of southern california super scout, or had access to the internet?
