  1. gah, that was a chance to break it open... 2-0 count with bases loaded against a pitcher struggling with his command.
  2. 32 rangers appearances: 0 home runs allowed 3 cubs appearances: 1 home run allowed ONLY THE CUBS anyway, he's got 4 strikeouts in 2 innings, which is cool.
  3. i'm going to lean toward the site that doesn't have him as the 7th most valuable defender in all of baseball, regardless of position. that does not pass the eye test.
  4. And the 5th highest WAR in baseball among catchers. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=c&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=150&type=8&season=2013&month=0&season1=2013&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0
  5. too bad one of them can't play catcher. for as loaded as our system is with offensive prospects, our catching prospects are [expletive] pathetic. and our starting major league catcher has as many home runs as travis wood.
  6. i thought i had read that people were more optimistic about candelario at 3b after seeing him this year. i wouldn't be too thrilled about moving him from 3b to the lowest position on the defensive spectrum (outside of maybe 1b), at least this early in his career. if someone ends up having to move to corner OF due to 3b being nailed down by baez or olt or whoever, it would probably be bryant, since we already know that he has plenty of power to play LF or RF.
  7. he looks like a drunk.
  8. home run villanueva (#15). i'd be a lot more excited about him if not for the fact that the cubs are overflowing with 3b candidates who are probably better than him (olt, baez assuming a defensive shift, candelario, bryant).
  9. someone should tweet at keith law every time baez draws a walk, just to troll him.
  10. http://www4.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Houston+Astros+Photo+Day+sjnYpzJEmL6l.jpg
  11. daytona officially rained out =D>
  12. it pissed down in clearwater, daytona is in a rain delay and the power might have been knocked out to the ballpark.
  13. yeah torreyes' hit tool that allowed him to hit .260 the last two years.
  14. why would you consider arrieta a prospect? he's pitched almost 400 major league innings.
  15. low babip, doubles turning into home runs as he matures, plus defense, etc. rizzo would be a bargain at 1b for the next 6 seasons even if he continues to produce at the current level.
  16. i'm gonna go with the guy who is signed through 2019.
  17. i like hendricks. seems pretty efficient. i see that his ground out/fly out ratio went from 1.03 in 2011 (n limited action, mostly pitching relief), to 1.46 in 2012, to 1.80 this year. wonder if that's something he's been working on. hopefully he gets a legitimate shot at the 5th starter role in spring training next year.
  18. i would say that bryant will probably start in daytona next year regardless of where he plays the rest of this season. although candelario's presence does make things a little more complicated. candelario should move up a level and bryant is too advanced for the low minors. maybe they do a platoon where one plays 3b and the other plays 1b or corner OF. wouldn't surprise me if bryant could handle AA right now, frankly. in other news, all the tennessee hitters have reached base safely except for baez. :( he's 0-4 but at least he hasn't struck out (2 ground outs, 2 fly outs)
  19. i would say it's a disappointment if johnson and edwards don't spend at least part of the year in tennessee. i'll add to your list, vizcaino supposedly coming back off his injury, blackburn and underwood presumably starting full season ball, and a lot of the college arms drafted this year will also be playing full season ball. i'd expect a couple of them to stand out as good starting prospects and a couple more to look like promising bullpen arms.
  20. i was just about to joke that murphy is about 3 more big games from WSR offering him that type of contract.
