  1. Not to mention the fact that their freaking mascot is a tree. Sweet continuity, mensa factory. My friends and I just tend to call them the Tree, rather than the Cardinal. It's more fun to say "Stanford Tree."
  2. I can easily see the Cubs finishing fourth as it is. That may be a generous assessment.
  3. I propose that any female member of this board who dates a Cardinal player be b&
  4. No, you don't do that to a guy who is one of the best players in the history of your franchise. It might be a better move for the future to play Rodgers, but there are just some things that you don't do, and one of those is mistreat a legend. It's like JoePa at Penn State when a lot of people wanted him gone after the past few years of mediocrity. Even if they had been right and the game passed him by, there's so much that he's done for that team and the school that it would be a crime to boot him out the door. If Favre offers to sit to get Rodgers some experience, I'd take him up on his offer. But he has earned the right to leave on his own terms.
  5. I have a similar dream, except it involves Paul McGuire getting hit in the face with a brick every time he says something stupid.
  6. Penn State 1994 Northwestern 1995 Wisconsin 1999 Purdue 2000 Illinois 2001 Penn State 2005 I'd hardly say that Michigan and Ohio State have owned the Big Ten's top spot and the automatic BCS bid.
  7. Well, ESPN agrees with you, as both of their guys have PSU playing Va Tech in the Orange Bowl, while collegefootballnews.com has PSU playing ND in the Fiesta. Who knows. I think both matchups would be exciting.
  8. I ran into a few snow bowls looking this up. Even a CFL game by that name  Seems to me there have probably been a lot of CFL snow bowls.
  9. The PSU-OSU game earlier this year was ESPN's second highest-rated game every, topped only by Free Shoes U versus Miami in 1994... and both those games are obviously very regional in nature. In college football, prestige and storylines matter more for ratings than anything else. In PSU and Notre Lame, you've got two teams returning to powerhouse status, probably the most prominent coach in the game, and another coach who is becoming one of the biggest names in college football. Plus, one school with a ton of alumni, and the other school with a very large following. ND gets the best TV ratings, but PSU is very close behind them. Unless there's another game that I'm forgetting, I really do think a PSU-ND matchup would be the highest rated non-championship BCS game ever.
  10. I really don't care. Most people around here consider us the Big Ten champs, and really, if you get the automatic bid from your conference by way of a head-to-head victory, you have good reason to think that. Most people at O$U probably don't think of them as Big Ten champs because they could end up going to the Crapital One Bowl. As for where PSU goes, I really don't care. To be honest, I think the Orange Bowl is idiotic for choosing O$U over Penn State. Penn State is the #3 BCS team, won the head-to-head matchup, is a prestigious program returning to national prominence and has a legendary coach who was written off last year. There's more interest in PSU than O$U this year. I have a feeling that the Fiesta Bowl-Orange Bowl dealings will be kind of a "you scratch our backs this year, we'll scratch your backs another year" type of thing. The Notre Dame-Penn State matchup will have mega-ratings, probably the best of any non-championship BCS game in history, I'm guessing.
  11. Congrats to the Bears, that was a very solid win over a good team. My pick was wrong by quite a bit.
  12. You're a Cub fan... as Westley says in The Princess Bride, "Get used to disappointment."
  13. That's because Don Mossi wasn't an option.
  14. Uh, this really isn't the best argument to use, being as the Bears needed an intercepted Jeff Garcia pass to beat the Bears less than 3 weeks ago.
  15. That's not precisely what I was saying, but I can see where you might read my words differently. It was a commentary, rather than an indictment. Regardless, my apologies to anyone who may or may not have been offended by my post. I've edited the post. In an effort to lighten the mood of the thread, I can't help but thinking of the commercial where they accidentally insult the cavemen. Seems like it's Geico, not sure. Me grunt yes.
  16. I will say that I have more respect for the Bears than I did earlier in the year, especially their defense... but, I think Carolina wins this game fairly easily. Carolina is the best team in the NFC... not that that's saying much.
  17. I know this World Wide Web (or "Inner Net" as some people are calling it these days) has a lot of information on it, but nudie pictures and pornography? I can't believe such a thing would exist.
  18. The Texans' offensive line is a disgrace; it doesn't matter who they put at QB until they figure out a way to protect the guy back there. Doesn't help that Andre Johnson has been out most of the year and the rest of the receiving corps is trash.
  19. Actually that was directed more at the people who complained about the polls to the moderators, but I'll leave them alone too.
  20. My dad moved around a lot when he was a kid but his dad kind of rooted for the Red Sox.... but my dad always had a soft spot in his heart for the Cubs. Then my dad moved to Chicago to get his PhD from U. of Chicago, and he became a full-fledged Cub fan while there. We moved to Philadelphia but he raised me as a Cub fan... the other major pro sports teams I was allowed to choose, and naturally I chose the Philly teams. Thanks pops... I'd really hate to root for a winner in my lifetime! :x
  21. Drop a nuke on the whole thing and start over. And by the whole thing, I mean St. Louis.
  22. This poll should be locked, it offends me because I am ugly and am a male, plus I think it is mean to make fun of people for their outward appearance.
  23. I highly, highly doubt that. I can't imagine a team coming out in the middle of the season and announcing that they're releasing their starting quarterback once the season is over.
  24. That's like what Howard Stern has always said about his radio show. You know what you're going to hear when you listen to it. For adults to write the FCC and complain about material that is objectionable to them is idiotic. If you want to talk about kids hearing that stuff, fine, but I think part of parenting is keeping your kids from listening to radio programming they shouldn't be hearing. But, this is Tim's website and he has made it known all along what kind of content would be acceptible and not acceptible. So, onward and upward.
