  1. If that's your worry, any time through 2018 is likely to be fine. the 2014 cubs currently have a positive run differential.
  2. jason parks is concerned that he hit a home run when it was still twilight, but now he's only hitting singles in the dark.
  3. one person on twitter said that the home run from tonight's game was on a hanging breaking ball
  4. great outing for blackburn - 7 ip, 4 h, 0 r, 0 bb, 6 k, 1 hbp. would guess he's probably done, since pitchers at that level rarely go longer than 7 innings.
  5. this is more XBH's than he had in all games coming into tonight.
  6. God i hope this is when he makes the adjustment to the new league and just goes on a tear
  7. @UrbyJT: Javy gave a look to the ump after strike two. The color guy then grills him for hitting .170 and complaining. Tells him to swing the bat @UrbyJT: he swung the bat yes everyone knows the way to stop hitting .170 is to start swinging at more pitches that aren't strikes.
  8. I'll get nachos at Petco. And more importantly, some quality beer. niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice on the beer list
  9. alcantara's last 10 games: 5 bb, 7 k. rest of the season before that: 4 bb, 35 k.
  10. home runs from baez, alcantara and villanueva (2) in one night? http://images.starpulse.com/news/bloggers/8/blog_images/office-space-o-face.jpg
  11. it's nice when you see that the smokies have given up 15 runs, then when you click on the box score you see it was only joel piniero, austin kirk and lendy castillo who are getting shelled.
  12. i don't really see how the cubs' management could have been expected to predict that soler would repeatedly suffer hamstring injuries and break his tibia with a foul ball.
  13. it's a striking split in the middle of may. with no evidence of poor nighttime performance in the past. hey, starlin castro is hitting more than 100 points higher during the day than at night this season! maybe his eyes don't work properly!
  14. still undefeated :-"
  15. yeah this really seems like a new low for parks.
  16. more importantly, what's with people reading kyle's posts and responding to them
  17. kyle conveniently picks the two advanced metrics which are probably the most negative toward the cubs' bullpen. what a loser.
  18. i didn't know if it would be good, but i knew it had a way better chance to be good than last year's piss-poor pen. too many of last year's players were guys with a history of middling k-rates and/or mediocre command. i really like that the cubs have collected a lot of good power arms who, if they fail at starting, can reasonably project to be good middle relievers (grimm, ramirez, vizcaino, arrieta, edwards) along with some power arms who were always going to be relievers (rondon, strop). the bad news is that there aren't enough pitchers in the system who can reliably project to be average or better starters at the major league level.
  19. our bullpen has been legitimately good. borderline great if you take out veras' numbers.
  20. 9-pitch walk from alcantara (battled back from 0-2) followed by 4-pitch walk from baez.
  21. also cool: alcantara has walked in three straight games.
  22. it's a lot more fun watching mike olt hit .185 than it is watching darwin barney hit .185.
  23. pierce johnson's inability to throw strikes seems to have returned.
