  1. Michigan = worst 11-1 team EVER. Jeez, look at that OOC schedule - two real games and they lost both, this one they got completely embarrassed. If they go 8-8 in the Big Ten, PLEASE do not let them into the NCAA Tourney.
  2. Same here - I refuse to pick Oakland
  3. what went horribly wrong? and yeah, i told you guys that byu was really good. And yet you only put 15 points on them in the ESPN Pick Em game. Is that it? I did those picks about 15 minutes before the first game started, so I blew through the confidences pretty quickly. Still, I'd guess most people put less than 15 points on that game.
  4. at every joke in this thread
  5. man what an awful game that was last night... can't wait for that special saturday night tilt between kansas city and oakland!!!

  7. Darn, I figured that SanFran would be all over him.
  8. OK now my thoughts on your list: Pitchers: Kid Nichols belongs on there, even though I'm sure nobody knows who he is. Don Sutton has no business being on that list. Consider Bob Feller or Carl Hubbell. There are probably better options than Gaylord Perry too. Hitters: Manny Ramirez... is he better than Yaz and Shoeless Joe at this point? If so he belongs on the list. If not, he probably doesn't. Rafael Palmeiro, Todd Helton, Jim Thome, Vladimir Guerrero, Carlos Delgado shouldn't be on the list IMO. Neither should Winfield, Dawson, Brock. Stargell, Banks, Sheffield are borderline. The most glaring omissions, in order of James' rankings, are: 15. Joe Morgan 18. Eddie Collins 26. Rickey Henderson 30. George Brett 32. Jackie Robinson 33. Pete Rose 35. Craig Biggio 39. Arky Vaughan (seriously, look him up) 40. Nap Lajoie 41. Yogi Berra 44. Johnny Bench 50. Duke Snider 53. Roy Campanella 54. Tony Gwynn 55. Robin Yount 58. Ryne Sandberg 59. Charlie Gehringer 60. Wade Boggs
  9. FWIW, Bill James' best 64 players, omitting Negro League players (which it seems is the case on the list in this thread): Catcher Yogi Berra Johnny Bench Roy Campanella Mickey Cochrane First Base Lou Gehrig Jimmie Foxx Mark McGwire Jeff Bagwell Frank Thomas Eddie Murray Johnny Mize Harmon Killebrew Hank Greenberg Willie McCovey Second Base Joe Morgan Eddie Collins Rogers Hornsby Jackie Robinson Craig Biggio Nap Lajoie Ryne Sandberg Charlie Gehringer Rod Carew Third Base Mike Schmidt George Brett Eddie Matthews Wade Boggs Home Run Baker Shortstop Honus Wagner Arky Vaughan Cal Ripken Robin Yount Left Field Ted Williams Stan Musial Barry Bonds Rickey Henderson Carl Yastrzemski Joe Jackson Center Field Willie Mays Mickey Mantle Ty Cobb Tris Speaker Joe DiMaggio Duke Snider Ken Griffey Jr. Right Field Babe Ruth Hank Aaron Frank Robinson Mel Ott Pete Rose Reggie Jackson Pitcher Walter Johnson Lefty Grove Pete Alexander Cy Young Warren Spahn Tom Seaver Christy Mathewson Bob Gibson Kid Nichols Sandy Koufax Roger Clemens Bob Feller Others to be considered (due to their play since James' rankings were issued): Piazza Pudge Rodriguez Pujols A-Rod Jeter Manny Ramirez Roberto Alomar Sosa Maddux Pedro Randy Johnson
  10. I still say Williams' numbers are better by a wide margin. About 20 points in OPS+, more than 2 runs created per 27 outs, and most importantly, Williams' OBP was 63 points higher. When it comes to hitters, only one guy is in Williams' class, and that's Ruth. Bonds has approached Williams' stats, but Ted's numbers are still better. While Bonds cheated to become a great player after his peak, Williams missed 5 years of his prime due to military service.
  11. Yes, he's a junior and is coming soon to an Oakland Raiders or Tampa Bay Buccaneers near you. Thanks. I assume that Tampa would get him and the Raiders would want a QB or is Simms done for his career? Simms is probably done in Tampa, but I doubt they pick until #3. If the Lions lose their last two, they have the #1 pick and likely go with Brady Quinn. There's not another really good quarterback on the board, so the next two picks are probably Joe Thomas (T, Wisconsin) and Johnson. Both Tampa and Oakland could use OL and WR help, so I doubt those guys get past #3.

  14. oh yeah and after week one i picked up chad pennington and dropped drew brees. whoops.
  15. My team in a certain 10-team fantasy league is a dynasty. Won 8 in a row, had easily the highest score in the league, and I've had the best score 7 of 14 weeks. Anyway, this week is the final and I'm going to be pretty pissed if I lose. Here's the lineup this week: Eli Manning (vs NO) Tomlinson (@Sea) W. Parker (vs Bal) or Rudi Johnson (@Den)? Houshmandzadeh (@Den) M. Harrison (@Hou) Roy Willams (vs Chi) Shockey (vs NO) Vinatieri (@Hou) KC Defense (vs Oakland) Here's who I'm playing: Palmer (@Den) Barber (vs NO) Westbrook (@Dal) Terry Glenn (vs Phi) Reggie Brown (@Dal) Santana Moss (@StL) Vernon Davis (vs Ari) Carney (@NYG) NY Jets (@Mia) I really shouldn't lose, should I? And who's the better choice, Parker or Rudi? Actually, the choice would be easy if I hadn't made this trade a few weeks ago: Traded Away: Frank Gore, Heath Miller Received: Rudi, Shockey
  16. I once ate my weight in Godfather's pizza
  17. Doesn't Eckstein have that title trademarked?
  18. Green Bay -3.5 tonight
  19. Really, Prior's second half of 2003 was absolutely stunning (at age 22?). I don't see how anyone wouldn't get caught up in that. 10-1; 1.52 ERA; 95K; 16BB please stop, you're making me depressed
  20. I'm going to pore through that list more in a day or two, but I'm sure there are some glaring omissions, if Rickey Henderson was omitted and Lou Brock was accepted.
  21. oh crap, ga tech has a chance now... might need to change my bowl picks
  22. As someone pointed out, being 21 years old at Low A/High A is completely normal, especially for a guy who played college or community college ball. And while his walk rate needs to come down, his WHIP was still around 1.10 last year.
  23. yeah, I read the list and Rickey's omission jumped out at me immediately.
