  1. I'd do the deal for Blanton or for Aybar.
  2. by the way, brett myers has statistically been the phillies' best starter the past two years. To put this decision in Cub terms, it's like shifting Angel Guzman to the rotation right now and putting Carlos Zambrano in Bob Howry's spot.
  3. that would be awesome Except for the part where Mark Derosa plays 3rd instead of Aramis. Aramis plays short
  4. If he had to be shut down for five months, then what makes you think he'd be any better by the time spring training rolls around next year? If he doesn't pitch again this year, it'll be because there is something is structurally wrong with his arm.
  5. uh, what? how about lou piniella serves as "manager for the day"?
  6. hahaha charlie manuel really gives dusty baker a run for his money
  7. It's fair to ask a guy whether his players are unmotivated when they have lousy fundamentals and seem lackadasical. The team didn't know there were 3 outs in the sixth inning of last night's game, and had to be waved off the field by the umpires. Hopefully for the sake of my friends who are Phillies fans, Manuel will be fired and they'll bring in a replacement who is actually competent.
  8. so the reporter thinks the team is too lax -- much like the Cubs were under Dusty Baker, with no accountability -- and the manager takes the guy into his office, berates him and then challenges him to a fight? Yeah that's really handling the situation like a professional.
  9. Ever hear of lip service? maybe, but he apparently didn't say that sammy sosa was going to "get hit", so this thread looks pretty silly
  10. I suppose it could happen but I haven't heard any rumors like that. The Cards are usually pretty open and honest about injuries. This also doesn't make any sense. If he gets "shut down" for the year, that will mean that there's something seriously wrong with his arm. If this were September and the Cards were out of the playoff race, then yes, they might opt to sit him out for the rest of the year. But teams don't just decide to sit players out with 90% of the season remaining, just because that player has some injury concern.
  11. way to go charlie Being from Philly, I can tell you that Howard Eskin is a prick - but that being said, it is true that attacks on Charlie Manuel have been related to game management and the Phillies underachieving, and have not been personal in nature. Manuel is a pretty lousy manager, and I'll be surprised if he makes it to the all-star break. That Phillies team should be able to contend for the division, or at the very least for the wild card.
  12. Umm...maybe because you never see a flying piece of pizza hit someone in the face at a baseball game. Not to mention the announcers were dying laughing. I don't understand how someone could not find this funny. Because sometimes laughing at other people like a bunch of Nelson Muntz lemmings isn't as fun as it sounds. I think the guy who threw it is a jerk. I don't see why people like to celebrate such behavior. the commentators make it so funny, imo
  13. there's no way they weren't hammered and jerry remy is awesome
  14. ugh, care to show up next time atlanta? friggin rags.
  15. seriously, Ronny Cedeno has no business being on this team. He was one of the worst hitters in baseball last year, and he again looks lost to start this year. His plate discipline is abysmal, and his fielding is even inconsistent. Bring up Fontenot. He can fill in at SS in a pinch, but you've already got two guys on the roster who can play SS reasonably well (Izturis, Theriot). Fontenot has a career .364 OBP in the minors, and had a solid line of 296/375/450/825 at Iowa last year. He's unlikely to be completely lost at the plate, because he has a good eye. At the very least he'll be able to contribute by drawing some walks, which is more than can be said for Ronny. And, he's never going to be more than a utility guy, so you're not harming his long-term development by calling him up and giving him sparse playing time.
  16. sign me up for the "cedeno to AAA, fontenot to the big leagues" bandwagon
  17. awesome, i was at that game... dropped about $35 on beer too, but fortunately i didn't spill any of it
  18. not even close... jones is a decent hitter. cedeno is one of the worst hitters in baseball.
  19. hahaha please get cedeno off this team... what an awful player
  20. good job guys, keep trying to put one over the LF fence into a 20 mph wind
  21. gerald perry has really turned this offense around
