  1. A washed up Nomar is still a lot better than Neifi. If Neifi is our starting SS next season, I don't think I'll be watching many Cubs games, especially if Giles is the only OF we aquire to make up for the lack of production.
  2. He was better than Lenny freaking Harris.
  3. Too bad everything will be back to normal tomorrow.
  4. Can't have no patience, dude. Gotta be aggressive.
  5. Sad? How is it sad? You think the numbers he is putting up now, which will likely be worse next year, are worth $9 mil/year?
  6. lose plz high draft picks are awesome
  7. Not enough balance. :x :x :x :x :x :x :x No way will Tribune take on Manny's contract. Damon is a lead-off hitter, but he still can hit 20-25 HR's. Look what our 2004 team did. 4 guys w/ 30+ HR's and we didn't make the playoffs. Wood's health will determine everything, IMO. I don't think 4 guys hitting 30+ HRs had anything to do with why the Cubs didn't make the playoffs. They didn't make the playoffs because they had nobody on base when they hit those homeruns, and one of those guys could only hit HRs and couldn't get on base.
  8. Because he does it for a living? Because he, and his staff, are the closest people to the players, and presumably have a lot more institutional knowledge than anyone on this board? I don't know why people operate under the assumption that because a GM makes some mistakes, he doesn't know anything. Name me a GM who hasn't made mistakes. They're dealing with people, and people are extremely variable in their abilities and their reactions to new and stressful situations. I think Hendry is a very good GM, even while admitting he's made his share of mistakes. But whose opinion do you trust more, someone whose staff works with the players every day, or someone on an anonymous internet message board who probably has never had contact with the player in question, much less run a sports organization? So, I guess with that logic we can't criticize Baker either. The guy has been managing for a while. Dude knows what he's doing.
  9. PLUS HE'S NOT CLUTCH AND DON'T FORGET BAD DEFENSE
  10. Simon vs. Righties in 03: .277/.310/.441/.752 Choi vs. Righties in 03: .232/.349/.449/.797
  11. Millwood? Why? :D But Milwood is just Wood with Mil at the front. And like Kerry, he gets no run-support.
  12. We'll most likely see Hairston in LF, Corey in CF, and Burnitz in RF.
  13. It makes more sense to trade Lee?   Walker doesn't make Lee better, in fact, the opposite is true. Lee's the anchor of the infield. Without DLee at first this team would be amazingly miserable defensively. It makes more sense to entertain offers for Lee, because his value is so high and he'll be a FA after next season. Imagine what we could get for him. Obviously, that's only if a team was really willing to overpay. Something like Lee for Richie Sexson and King Felix would be awesome.
  14. Isn't the Cell one of the easiest parks to homer in? I'd say the White Sox would have been much better off with Lee. They'd probably have a better chance of going deep in the playoffs if they had Lee in LF rather than Podsednik. Iguchi is capable of leading off.
  15. What if they kept Lee, forgot about El Duque, and just stuck McCarthy in the rotation?
  16. I never would have known this if not for this site. thanks I wonder who is on that team. Maybe something like this? 1B Joe Morgan 2B Joe Morgan 3B Joe Morgan SS Joe Morgan C Joe Morgan LF Joe Morgan CF Joe Morgan RF Joe Morgan SP Joe Morgan CP Joe Morgan
  17. Well, isn't that what Piniella does? He'd actually play a kid out of position just to fit some veteran retread in the lineup. That's bad. I've seen enough D'Rays games down here to know that he just isn't a very good manager.
  18. And this is why Stone will never be a major league GM. As was mentioned, Cedeno is a SS, and his value is as a SS. That means you would be giving Furcal shortstop-type money to play 2B. There's really no point in overpaying for less production.
  19. Would you like to show quotes or links to support that these pitchers prefer Blanco? Once again, you've turned to baseless speculation. It's the tell-tale sign of a weak argument from a weak mind. Furthermore, what Barrett lacks in defense, Blanco more than lacks in offense. When you're team has a problem scoring runs as this one does, it makes much more sense to hold on to all the offense you can. And no....I guess I don't watch many Cub games...just probably a hell of a lot more than you. I just don't like to presume things about players. I'm glad you're such a great reader of body language, because your baseball acumen is pitiful. I can read just fine thank-you. It's one of the many skills I likely do better than you. I'm glad you have an erroneous opinion about Barrett. I'm sure it's not the only one you have. Yes, don't knock Blanco. Blanco is better because when he walks to the mound to talk to the pitcher, he keeps his head up high and doesn't slouch.
  20. I would actually consider trading Lee before Barrett and Ramirez because his value is so high. Cubs could get quite a bit for him.
  21. Might as well bring Burnitz back then, because he could do the same thing Jones could.
