  1. I'm not sure Kearns price would be a lot lower. His value is low and he's not making a lot of money, so I don't know why the Reds have any motivation to trade him right now. Cubs would end up overpaying for him. At least with Dunn you know what you're getting.
  2. Why Carlos Lee? He's nothing special outside his RBI totals. I'd prefer every guy on that list to him. Maybe b/c he'll hit for around a .290 avg, hit about 35 HR and drive in around 120+ RBI..... nothing special eh? I'd rather have Lee than any of those guys actually The same Carlos Lee that's hitting .261? HR totals don't matter to me a ton, and RBI mean little to nothing to me. His lower OBP (albeit with a high SLG) diminishes his production. All 4 of those other guys create more runs than Lee. This thinking is getting out of control. How can Rbi's and Hr's mean nothing. Some of you guys like to talk about runs created, and I have no idea how all that stuff works. What I do know is that the best way to create a run is to hit a homerun. I'll also take a guy with a 150 rbi over a guy with a 150 walks. Preston Wilson drove in 141 runs one year. He's awesome.
  3. I'm willing to bet that the same people who support getting Dunn, aren't the same people who were complaining all the runs came via the HR last year. The problem last year wasn't too many HRs. It was lack of walks and it's still a problem. Good pitching and the 3 run homer does work. It's good pitching and the solo homer that doesn't work.
  4. NTC and his value is too low. Nix has struggled as much as Corey and I'm not really a huge fan of Mench. Can't hit for crap away from Ameriquest.
  5. RBIs are an independent stat. It's not Dunn's fault that his RBI total is low. It probably has more to do with the guys hitting in from of him. I think if you were to stick Dunn between Lee and Aram, he'd see better pitches to hit, and wouldn't be pitched around quite as much. Therefore, his Ks would go down, his average would go up, and his RBI total would go up. His walks would obviously go down, but he'd be hitting for a higher average so his OBP would stay about the same.
  6. the cubs are outrageously misguided, then I agree. I really don't see what's so special about Hill.
  7. Yes. Green light, dude. Gotta be aggressive.
  8. Yah. Wood, Prior, and Z have been giving up way too many homers this season. I wish they'd stop that.
  9. The success Kearns had his rookie year is because of a high BABIP that was obviously unsustainable. Since then he hasn't been very good. I'd take him if the Cubs only had to give up very little for him, but he wouldn't be my first choice. Probably not my second choice either. I'm not sure I'd call Pierre talented. He's talented like David Eckstein, Chone Figgins, Ryan Freel, or Hairston are talented. Pierre doesn't really do anything particularly well except run fast. It has already been said that most of his success is because his BABIP was high at Dolphin's Stadium, and he wouldn't have that kind of success at Wrigley because of the high grass. Even in his best year (last year) he was no more patient at the plate than Patterson. He only saw about 3.5 pitchers/PA, and walked just as many times as Patterson. The team would be better off with a slugging LF.
  10. Isn't a power hitters job to be patient also? If Dunn has two strikes on him, and doesn't get his pitch, he won't swing. This lineup is still in serious need of OBP, and Huff and Pierre can't hold Dunn's jock. Wasn't there a post in another Dunn thread that he's something like 9 for 18 in situations that would call for a sac fly?
  11. I'd rather Murton get sent to AAA if we were to get Dunn. Platoons don't seem to work very well under Dusty and Murton should be getting regular playing time in the minors. I'd rather just move Barrett up in the order when the Cubs are facing a lefty and move Burnitz down a slot or two.
  12. He's Luke freaking Hudson. So why are we making him look like Tim Hudson, ya losers?
  13. Ugh. Why? Cubs=very dumb. :x
  14. Dubois is DHing tonight: Grady Sizemore, CF Ronnie Belliard, 2B Coco Crisp, LF Victor Martinez, C Ben Broussard, 1B Jhonny Peralta, SS Casey Blake, RF Jason Dubois, DH Aaron Boone, 3B
  15. Nothing is wrong with him. His numbers are in line with his career averages. During the course of his career, he's been a terrible hitter. One of the worst in baseball.
  16. They should put Dubois at 1B. I think he can outproduce Broussard if given regular playing time.
  17. More posts like this, plz. We haven't seen enough of them.
  18. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?statsId=6127 ESPN says .369 vs righties and .313 vs lefties not including the previous game.
  19. By the way - those are all comments you could make about our current center fielder. JP plays better defense and hits for higher average . . . But it's not worth giving up anything for a slight upgrade.
  20. Because he sucks. He has no power, no arm, not a great base stealer, and doesn't walk much. Peirre has hit over .300 4 out of the last 5 years, while JH has not come close to that production. Granted, he's not a big HR threat, but neither is JH. JP gives us more than JH, simple as that. And a slugging LF would give us a lot more than Pierre. He's not the answer.
