Then just ignore the thread. Just because Hendry isn't smart enough or creative enough to consider it, doesn't mean it isn't worth discussing. The pitchers left on the market aren't worth pursuing; however, the best hitter on the market is still available for the taking and without a long-term commitment. Bonds would make this team immensely better. Putting aside my personal dislike for Bonds, I think it's never going to happen based on the fact that Hendry is on his 'good character guy' kick.

Pettite's talking about retirement. Wilson hasn't been linked to anyone, so he might have just accepted. The kicker to me is Graffanino, he had interest until the Brew-crew offered him Arb. Now, he's probably just going to accept it from them. But where is the risk in offering either of them? Obviously in Wilson he might have accepted it, that's the risk. Apparently the Yankees don't want him. As far as Pettite, either Houston wants to cut ties or they think they can sign him cheaper than an Arbiter would rule.

Obviously that's what we all want. It is looking like Schmidt may not happen, but it might. Your Manny trade makes no sense for them, IMO. I think they want more than just a reliever and the prospects we'd be willing to give up. Don't expect to see Manny in a Cubs uniform in 2007. By the way, If what you want occurs, the "flaws and obstacles" would not stop that team from being a serious World Series contender. I knew I didn't spell obstacle right. :lol: But to the Manny thing, it's really hard to figure out what they want in return. At first I thought they wanted a SP. But since they landed the 2 from Japan, with Becket, Schill, and Papplebon, they seem pretty set there. The weakness seems to be their BP. Just throwing it out there. The second Japanese pitcher is a BP arm. They only technically have 4 starters, but have Clement rehabing.
