In addition to going after Furcal this offseason, Rotoworld suggested that Marcus Giles is a possible candidate for a trade. Wouldn't it be great to get Furcal and M. Giles for the IF and sign his brother Brian Giles for the OF. A lineup that starts out Furcal, M. Giles, Lee, Ramirez, and B. Giles looks like a winner to me.

If Marcus Giles is available, I'd pursue him with vigor. However, the Cubs' problem is they don't have much to deal. What do the Cubs have that the Braves would possibly want?

Young pitchers that Mazzone can turn into 20-game winners.

Giles is a great defensive player, but his offense is a shade better than Walker's. While he'd be a great player to have on the team, I don't know if acquiring him would be the best use of resources, considering we aren't hurting for a good 2B like we are in other positions.

Agreed. And if we do manage to sign Furcal, I doubt the Braves will be anxious to tradeus the rest of their middle infield.

Trade for Giles first and then sign Furcal. I agree we have other needs more than a 2B, but Giles and Furcal solidify the middle infield both on offense and defense for many years to come. Also, it solidifies the top of the lineup for many years. Combine them with Lee, Ramirez, Barrett, Pie, Prior, Wood, Zambrano, and some of our pitching prospects and you have the nucleus of an outstanding team for 5-6 years (assuming all players can be kept under contract).

Braves will not trade Marcus Giles. Oakland tried to pry him away for Hudson last offseason and the Braves wouldn't budge. The Braves kept telling Oakland that Marcus Giles was simply not going to be a part of any trade. With that in mind, I doubt the Cubs could get Marcus Giles.

Furcal, however, seems to have worn out his welcome in Atlanta.
