If this turns out to be true that there are that many names, I'll be shocked.

MLB has allowed this to become a mess in the first place by not being proactive when the first rumors of steroid use began years ago - the PU deserves a big fat amount of blame also.

What would really shock me though is that MLB would actually hold back the names for a lengthy period of time (as apparently they did with Palmeiro) for PR purposes after categorically denying these rumors.

I honestly don't get this huge worry about PR - the public already pretty much suspects any and every guy who performs above his career averages and seems to have bulked up any. Heck, I even heard some sports guys saying they think Giambi is back on the juice as well (he'd outrank Palmeiro as the #1 idiot if he is). MLB should announce player's who test positive as soon as it's been proven by whatever crazy policy they're using now - whether that's multiple testing on a first positive or whatever. MLB itself already has a huge stain on it's pants - announcing names isn't going to make it any worse for them - it'll only make it worse on the players who get outted.

What a mess this season has turned out to be all in all - between the steroid scandals and rumors to one of the biggest collapses I can remember seeing a Cubs team fall into.
