I don't like it, Mitre should not be in the pen right now.

I wonder if 1 more trip through the rotation with long outings would be enough to convince people that 7 relievers is a waste. Remlinger has 4 IP in 4 outings in July. About 4 guys have had just 1 inning of work since the break. This is seriously not good for the bullpen.

Cubs==Terminally Dumb.

Meanwhile, Ben Grieve is a quality PH option on the bench who we jettison, AND we keep Jose Macias as one alternative.

Dumb dumb dumb. Does Grieve have lice or something??

Macias is the teams' only back-up 3rd baseman. That is why Grieve was sent down.

Using facts spoils the ability to insult Cubs management.

Neifi has played 3B this year if someone got hurt mid-game. I'm all for keeping Grieve, sending down Mitre and cutting Macias, with Fontenot coming up.

Neifi is not a proven ML 3rd baseman, he is a SS. The move your suggesting makes no sense.

Neifi has and could play there in a jam, I'm not suggesting he start anywhere(SS included) ever. Fontenot can play second and third, and is a better bat than Macias. The move I suggest accounts for Gerut coming on to the roster, which is why it appears that we're losing 2 players and gaining only one.

This in from Rotoworld:

Cubs optioned outfielder Ben Grieve to Triple-A Iowa.

Grieve had hits in both of his at-bats in his latest stint with the Cubs, but he still goes to make room for Jody Gerut. He belongs on some team's bench. Jul. 19 - 4:17 pm et

Bah, we have Jose Macias and he is INFINITELY more valuable!!! :roll:

Then I am sure multiple teams will be calling the Cubs about his availability, which hasn't changed all year--he's available.

i'm sure neifi could play an adequate defensive 3B if necessary. he looked fine when he filled in the one time this year.

macias is useless when you have someone else who can play third.

All teams need a utility player that can go anywhere in a jam, which is the only reason macias stays on the cubs...he can play 7 positions. I don't like neifi starting though, and I think neifi can fill the utility void, because macias has a boring bat. I don't think there should be so many rookies brough up (i.e. cedeno, fontenot, dubois when he was with them), but grieve is a good outfielder, and can play either corner.

grieve is not a good outfielder., he is terrible, the only one who might be worse is dubois. if grieve is such a wonderful player why has he been dumped so many times. he was nearly booded out of milwaukee because of his defense.
