Emannoel Madeira with another solid start in the DSL. He's now at 33 K/13 BB in 35 innings and he's still 17.

I assume he'll come to Arizona this offseason or next spring, hopefully along with Yander Maria, Jostin Florentino and Emilio Ramos, who all have either interesting stats or interesting scouting blurbs from when they signed.

Angel Cepeda drilled a double and an RBI single and Cubs 2024 4th round pick Ty Southisene (Basic Academy - Henderson, NV) stroked three singles, stole two bases, and scored a run for the Cubs, albeit in a losing cause. (In his first four pro games, Southisene is 5-8 with two walks and three stolen bases).

Cubs pitchers allowed only three hits, but walked eight, hit four batters, and threw seven wild pitches (including three walks, one HBP, and five WP by Daniel Brown alone, all while not recording an out). D. Brown was making his 2024 game debut, although he has not been injured.

RHP Charlie Hurley (signed by the Cubs as a Rule 4 NDFA on July 26th) made his pro game debut, starting the game and working two innings. He allowed one run on one hit (the Rivera RBI double) and hit two batters, but otherwise he threw a healthy 73% strikes. Hurley was the Sunday starter (#3 SP) at the University of Texas in 2024, and was pitching for the State College Spikes in the MLB Draft League right up until a week before he signed with the Cubs, so he is more game-ready than the nine pitchers the Cubs selected in the draft (none of whom have yet pitched in a pro game). Despite being 6'8 225, Hurley does not throw hard. He features an 89-90 MPH FB and a 82-85 MPH SL, and employs a “pitch-to-contact”type approach.
