I can't think of any examples of it happening within like a year.  It occasionally happens a little further out, Nolan Arenado was a notable example when he got traded right around two years after signing his deal.  There's definitely a honeymoon period of a few years before it starts shifting back to "what makes the most business sense"

The reason why I asked is that it will almost have to mean that one or more of the farm hands are getting traded. Nelly, Canario, Davis, PCA, Cassie, even Pinango may all be ready. If you think PCA is the CF of the future, you can remove him, but that still leaves a lot of surplus players.

Didn't the Red Sox do that with Bronson Arroyo? Maybe I'm misremembering, but I believe they signed him to a three-year extension and then dealt him to the Reds.

And then for some reason he decided to take his anger out on the Cubs the rest of his career.

I just started to follow the team again after checking out for a couple seasons (hard to believe, right). A lot has changed on the overall baseball landscape, so I’m not sure if the call up is happening when it would have in the past. I guess I don’t see a guy like Canario, Cassie, or Pinango being impeded by this. Davis and PCA can battle it out for CF in 2024.
I guess I don’t think this blocks anyone. Suzuki and Happ will miss time eventually and if one of these guys Wally pipps them then that’s a good thing.
