Yeah, the run scored off a pair of wild pitches. 20/28 strikes is an excellent return. The injury probably just helped spread his innings around.

Yeah, I said that when he first went down and it appeared to not be serious. Cease is probably shooting for 100 innings this year so missing ~4 starts definitely wasn't too bad.

Rucker goes 4.2 2 1 1 3 5, on 77 pitches, with them still stretching him out. He got the first 2 guys in the 5th, but gave up a single and a walk and was taken out.

As a starter, he now has a line of 9.2 3 1 1 4 11. This after dominating as a reliever.

In MB as a reliever he had gone 10.1 10 3 3 2 16. In SB, it was 12.2 7 2 2 0 22.

He's an unexpected surprise, as an 11th rounder last year, with a small over slot. In context, I was shocked Hatch started the year at MB.....Says what confidence the FO has in him. Pierce Johnson was the college pitcher we've taken the highest, and he didn't start the year in High A.....

At any rate, for our 11th rounder to be in MB AND be converting into a starter at this point.....This is very cool. Maybe we're getting lucky with a pitcher.....

Last game of instructs: http://www.thecubreporter.com/06112017/emeralds-double-and-triple-azl-cubs-riverview-park

Aramis Ademan had a huge game. Eugene starts on Thursday and the AZL Cubs start in a couple of Saturdays.

Eugene's official roster hasn't been released yet, but based on those final line-ups, it appears the Emeralds will have at least 2 18-year-old hitting prospects (Ademan and Amaya) and at least 3 19-year-olds (Narea, Kwon and Polanco). In addition, 18-year-old Jose Albertos will lead the Emeralds staff and will be joined by 19-year-old Javier Assad.

Mesa will also have at least 3 18-year-old hitting prospects in Sierra, Perlaza and Gutierrez with Orion Nunez (currently in the DSL) possibly being called up soon. Mesa is also expected to have 4 18-year-old pitching prospects (all considered starters at this point) in Marquez, Y. Perez, Carrera and Ocampo with 19-year-old Hector Garcia also in the group. (There's been some talk of Marquez starting in Eugene.)

Mekkes Myrtle debut.

1.1 innings. 3 hits, 2 walks, no runs, no strike outs.

21 strikes on 37 pitches.

Obviously he is giving the league false hopes

As is not uncommon (in fact it's a pretty good bet that a player will struggle at first following a promotion), both Maples and Mekkes weren't their typical shutdown selves. Maples gave up an infield hit and a double to allow a run in his first AA appearance. He still struck out 2 in his one inning of work and didn't walk a batter. Mekkes gave up 3 hits and walked 2 in an inning and a third while striking out 1.

Eloy's HR landed well outside Pelican's Park. Got a meatball at 89, belt high, inner half. It was gone the moment it hit the bat.

Rucker's FB was 91-95 (mostly 93-95) with good movement and was commanded quite well. The breaking stuff was less consistent and not thrown very often as the FB was so effective. The HR Rucker gave up was on a hanging curveball.
