Okay, I've started working on this. You can find the work in progress here.

Some questions:

  • How should the initial list be presented? Should I make it easy and present it as the current overall ranking? Should I remove bias and present it alphabetically?
  • How many should I list by default?
  • Should I just use one list like this? That will count on the user ranking everyone in the list. The alternative would be to have two lists and allow people to only list as many prospects as they want by dragging from column A to column b (and then sorting in column b).

Thanks!

I like the last way of listing (with 2 lists). No bias, totally flexible.

I'd say you could probably go 60-70 deep on the list.

Yeah, I definitely like the two list approach. I got that working.

Now to figure out how to save an entry to the database. And how to tag it so that there is a limit on how often someone can enter their choices.

Any javascript developers here? I'm totally befuddled as to why I can't get my script to bind to the submit button to override the default behavior.

Progress!!!

I now have things set up so that:

1) you can drag and drop your choices from one column to the other

2) you can sort within the ranking column to put them in order

3) you can submit it to the database to be saved!

Enhancements remaining:

1) Limit each IP to one vote per day

2) If the post is successful, present the results in a nicer manner and disable the submit button

3) Show statistics based on inputs in the database

4) create the complete list of players to choose from

but, hey, progress!

Between trades and graduations, putting together a prospect list this time of year is going to be like putting worms in a can, so I'd just wait until August 1.

You're kinda missing the point here.

A bit more done today...

3) you can submit it to the database to be saved!

4) each IP is limited to one vote per day

5) if you want to overwrite your previous entry for the day, there is a checkbox that allows you to do so

6) the name is now a required field

7) I've cleaned up the return messages based upon what happens on the back end

Enhancements remaining:

1) Show statistics based on inputs in the database

2) create the complete list of players to choose from

3) add a field to the player database to show when players become eligible for the list and when they lose eligibility

4) Filter the player list based on the eligibility

5) Find a way to get rid of the placeholder value once a player is added to the ranking list

Please, try it out and give me your feedback!

Nice work , Tim!

I've made a few more refinements and added a bunch of player names. Let me know if you want any more names added (or guys like Skulina taken off).

I'm trying to decide on whether there should be a minimum number of players ranked for me to accept the form. I think it should be at least the top 10 guys for an entry to be valid, but perhaps I should require at least 20. What think you all?

Also, I have the world's simplest list up now to show who has made entries on what date. I'll start working on that analysis and display once I finish the entry form.

The page to look at the entries is now functional. So now you can go there and laugh that I'm starting to put Jose Albertos into my top 30 already.

Thanks, Tim. It's working well. This is a fun option to have on the site!

I know it's still in development, but will you eventually be adding more names?

Cool. It's still too early for the 2016 draft guys and most of the 2015 IFA guys. I was more asking if that would be happening.

Thanks!

Echo this, Tim. Nice job!

I guess maybe Carlos Sepulveda and Andrew Monasterio could be added now. If we're going to have recent college guys like Kellogg, then maybe Morrison and Bloomquist. If relievers like Pena and McNeil are there, perhaps Paniagua? If people want to make a top 50 list guys like Miguel Amaya, Aramis Ademan, Isaac Paredes, Jonathan Sierra, Faustino Carrera, Yonathan Perlaza and other higher bonus guys from last year could be placed on there. Obviously when this year's draftees sign...

Thank you!

I've been trying to think of an easier way to do this...

What if you could click a button to load your last entry?

I'm also trying to decide on how to best handle allowing people to enter in different numbers of prospects. My thought is that I'll allow up to 50 prospects to be entered. A number one ranking is worth 50 points, number two is worth 49, etc. That way guys that make the list at all get rewarded, but making one list at #30 is worth less than making 30 lists at #50.
