That's exactly it. And the smart ones know that it was the historic outlier in run prevention they posted that is largely responsible, but they acted like Matheny was robbed of the MoY regardless. But they're obligated to feel that way, I suppose. If the Cards finish around .500 this year, they'll go right back to hating him.

 

As for the Maddon hate, I think that was building all year, and the "we'll finish it" and the MoY just drew it all the way out. They'd have been thrilled if the Cards had fired Matheny and hired him, though they'd have to reconcile Joe's style with the stuffy pretentiousness the organization usually sports.
