I am going to the Boise series with Salem-Keizer (July 1 - 3). What should I look out for?

On offense, SS Carlos Penalver and OFs Shawon Dunston Jr and Jacob Hannemann (2013 3rd rounder) are the most interesting players.

The starting pitchers will be James Pugliese on 7/1, Paul Blackburn on 7/2 and Loiger Padron on 7/3. Blackburn has been tremendous in his first three starts with an uptick in velocity which, if he holds for the rest of the season, should cement his status as one of the top 10 prospects in the system. Pugliese is repeating Boise and has the potential to be a top 30 prospect in his own right. 2013 draft picks Trey Masek (2013 5th rounder) and Scott Frazier (2013 6th rounder) are now in Boise's pen.

yeah, if there are scouts with radar guns behind home plate and you can get down there when blackburn is pitching, do it. then report back here.

in other news, daytona rained out. \:D/

hr and walk for alcantara.

It's ridiculous that he has an outside shot at hitting 20 this year.

Posted
alcantara has a pretty extreme switch hitting split - .222/.292/.309/.601 against lhp (batting RH) and .299/.375/.525/.900 against rhp (batting LH). anyone know if this is consistent with previous years? his K rate is actually worse against rhp so it's not like he's clueless against lefties (reasonable 22.2% K rate), but he's shown way more power against rhp.

This season is an outlier. Last tyear he was .299/.330/.445 vs. RHP and .308/.354/.433 against LHP. The year before he was .269/.299/.351 vs RHP and .278/.316/.356 vs LHP.

Shawon Dunston back in Boise's starting lineup after leaving yesterday's game for dehydration and cramping.

hannemann is out for the second straight game. what the dillyo.

@BoiseHawksRadio Word just in from the @BoiseHawks clubhouse. There's nothing wrong with Hannemann. He is getting some much deserved rest before the trip.

Really glad Dunston is making a go of it in Boise.

I'm not surprised. He looked pretty good when I saw him with Boise last year. Except for at the plate, where he just wasn't squaring up on the ball. I didn't think it was that he did not have the talent, but that he just wasn't ready yet.

I think the question is going to be does he get a mid-season promotion to KC or stay at Boise the entire year?

I'd rather he stick it out except for maybe a brief taste of Kane County at the end of the season. He's incredibly raw and it's only been a few weeks so far.
