A scary moment occurred Wednesday night at Tropicana Field when Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Will Rhymes collapsed and passed out on the field in the bottom of the eighth inning because of what the Rays called an adrenaline rush after he was hit in the elbow by a pitch thrown by Boston Red Sox reliever Franklin Morales. ..After a few minutes, Rhymes trotted to first base while the Red Sox made a pitching change.

Rhymes then began to motion toward the Tampa dugout that he could not continue when he collapsed.

Rays first-base coach George Hendrick was nearby and was able to catch Rhymes before he hit the ground.

He's fine now.

Rhymes said it was the first time he has passed out.

"Hopefully it's my last," he said. "I told them I was Batman, just to mess with them."

He's now my favorite AL player

This happened to me once. I was getting out of a van through the passenger side door when I was something like 10 or so. I put my hand on the door jam and someone closed the big sliding door, crushing my right ring finger in the door frame. It smashed my fingernail into my finger. I remember being in the bathroom with my Dad with my finger running under cold water. I started to get tunnel vision, mumbled something and my Dad caught me as I fell into the wall/hand dryer. I woke up something like 30 seconds later. It still hurt but I was fine. It has been probably 30 years and my fingernail still has a big ridge across it.

Didn't we just hear a week or so ago that pitchers have good enough control to hit a guy in an area that won't cause damage? So occasionally they do let one get away from them? Hmmm...
