I think we need to clarify that this isn't illegal. We have enough confusion in this league without calling legal rosters illegal just bc you have some starting player spots empty.

to clarify, people can overload their bench to avoid going over the SP limit, and can move a bench player into the starting lineup (within the week) to replace a player who is dinged up and will miss a few games.

I am following the rules:

 

7. Positional eligibility is determined by a players current starting position or his past use. These rules are set forth on the league site as 10 appearances at a position in the current year or 20 the previous year. However, if a player is "named" the starter at a position, immediate eligibility will be granted by the commissioner upon request and general concurrence. Pitchers may be moved into either SP or RP positions freely but may only be used in the role they are used by their major league team. Pitchers in a position other than where they are used will not accrue points during that appearance.

Simplification #1: Pitchers are just pitchers. You can score points from seven starts a week and have two active relief pitchers.

we could set up a separate pitcher reserve to store pitchers - the question is, do we then change the number of total reserves? This seems a little unfair post-draft.

update on kevin's hitters: 0-for-24, 5 strikeouts.

 

he also had a relief pitcher give up 2 runs on a home run, so his score stands at -5.75.

i don't have a problem.

 

there's a difference between a) having 19 guys on your roster but having 3+ on the bench to manage your seven starts and b) having 27 guys on your roster with 8 guys on your bench just because.

 

if you've used 5 starts for the week and you have 5 starting pitchers scheduled to start on sunday, you will have to overstock your bench to avoid going over the 7 start limit. i have no problem with that and it's perfectly legal.

Ok, so you just don't see the difference. It's pretty simple to see people just missed the deadline and weren't seeking some great advantage. This league has always been forgiving. I don't have a problem taking away the points, but the melodrama is ridiculous, even for a lawyer.

and, as i've said before, there wouldn't be melodrama if we didn't have the attitude of "follow some rules, don't follow others." i mean, i'm not trying to be an ahole...but that's literally what we do. i understand we're forgiving and what not, but it's obviously going to lead to disputes when some rules are enforced and some aren't. i play in a yahoo keeper league where the rules are just the rules and there has never been a single argument. if a guy hasn't met the eligibility for 3b, he can't be your 3b. if you have an illegal roster, your roster is illegal.

 

i'm all for whatever changes make the rules a) simpler and b) less open to interpretation/breaking/forgiveness.

I also changed the rules to allow 6 reserves so you can stay legal and avoid going over in starts. Note that this does not allow you to stash 6 reserves - your total number of players is still 19 (plus minor leaguers and injured)
