The "we can contend" crowd will disagree vehemently, but I'd like to see both Samardzija and Cashner in the rotation to start the year, with McNutt on deck.

 

Let's see if we can get one or both of these guys to stick in their most highly-valued role.

 

I think it's more important Cashner starts in the bigs in 2013. If that means a mix of starting and relieving in Iowa and Chicago next season, so be it.

Why would Smardz to the rotation surprise anyone? Didn't they consider it before the start of last season? It's not like they couldn't move him back to the pen if things didn't work out. Seems like a move with very little risk.
