lol, BASEBALL skills and a BASEBALL athlete.

You're not someone I should expect much from in any future discussions, are' you? One of the board cool guys I guess...

Dew, I will possibly get back to that later. Not sure what else there is for me to say considering you're comparing the guy to two completely different players from him and each other and you seem absolutely convinced that patience is the only skill that translates when you get older. Not much I can do to help that really, but I guess I can give it more shots.

Maybe you should offer a better comparison then. Maybe Rickey Henderson though you'll probably find that Crawford isn't nearly as good.

I don't see where Crawford would be such a good fit for the Cubs anyway. He doesn't get on base enough to bat near the top of the order and he doesn't hit for enough power to bat in the middle of the order. The defense is great but, with less power coming from 3rd base if Ramirez leaves, the Cubs will need more of a run producer from that position.

Well, the Cubs would be wise to trade Castro then too. Since a 341 OBP is not good for a top of the order hitter and he doesn't have much power.

I don't care about spots in the order. I want good baseball players. Crawford for almost all of his career has been a good baseball player. If the Cubs could flip Soriano for Crawford. Where do I sign?

But this is stupid. It's not going to happen.

It's not just Soriano for Crawford. It's 3 years of declining 35 year old Soriano at (shot in the dark here) ~$19M a year vs. 6 years of 30 year old Crawford at something like 21M a year, coming off a terrible season in which he was no better than a replacement level player. He might rebound (probably will at least somewhat - what were his BABIP numbers?) or something might seriously be "broken." Big gamble to end up on the losing side of.

Personally, I'd rather have neither...and Soriano for 3 years and slightly less money gets me to neither sooner with a tad more payroll flexibility in the meanwhile (that's not to say I'm overlooking the good likelihood that Crawford is a more productive player for those 3 years... I just don't think the difference is worth the rest of it).

Castro is young with the potential to get better and plays a position where offense is usually a bonus and makes almost nothing compared to Crawford.

People that have jobs managing MLB teams seem to disagree and would almost certainly want Crawford to lead off.

Crawford is better than Soriano. If money and years were the same he would be the obvious choice. They aren't and if you hate Soriano's contract now, why would you hate Crawford's any less 2 years from now?

I think most teams would go with him in the 2 hole. He's not a true leadoff guy, but a damn near perfect #2 hitter.
