Wow I hadn't realized Josh Freeman had been so bad this year. He's already thrown as many picks through five games as he did all of last year. Still a solid QB, but I've always had a feeling he wasn't as great as his 2010 stats indicated.

Mark Sanchez > Josh Freeman.

Eh, maybe. Sanchez plays with a much better line and receivers. The fact that most people rank both of them ahead of Cutler is ridiculous though.

by most objective measures, Freeman's still been better than Cutler and especially Sanchez this season

We get it, you hate all things Bears. I'm interested though what you mean by "objective measures". I bet it's nothing that can't be explained by playing behind the worst line in the NFL.

I don't really find it ridiculous. I just think people blow off how bad our line and receivers really are, and that their poor play is a direct reflection on the QB rather than vice versa. I am tired of listening to it, though.

I'm pretty convinced that no matter who you stuck behind center on this Bears team would already be out for the season, would have getridoftheballasquicklyaspossibleitis and/or would be getting bashed on a daily basis for not being able to handle a little bit of pressure.

Due largely to the misconceptions that the QB is supposed to "make" the WRs, that a great QB can still succeed behind a garbage line, etc.

eight other teams' OLs have allowed more pressure than the Bears, including Tampa

I find that hard to believe, but even if that's true, that's not what I asked. What has made Freeman better than Cutler this year? I assume you're referring to some indirect stat, because what I see is this:

Cutler: 1,209 yards, 58.6% comp, 7.15 avg, 6 TD, 4 INT, 82.7 QB Rating

Freeman: 1,156 yards, 64% comp, 6.49 avg, 3 TD, 6 INT, 74.1 QB Rating

Also, TB doesn't have great receivers, but they're still better than Chicago's, especially at TE.

Cutler has the best receiving RB in football, whom has greatly boosted his passing numbers

Freeman's receivers have dropped the 2nd most passes, and he's had the most spikes

DVOA, EPA, WPA, success rate all favor Freeman over those two (Sanchez is hideously awful and not comfortably better than any other QB with reasonable job security)

Oh god you're going by QBR aren't you?

no

just come off it, homey, we get it, you don't like the bears. i have no idea why this has to be such a crusade for you. just be happy your team is good.

if cutler fighting zombies on monday night didn't convince you he's good then i guess nothing will.

also, the HUGE forte drop on monday night greatly changed the complexion of the game. cutler's had a lot of drops on 3rd down, easy catches that would have gone for first downs.

the fact that the bears have so few options at receiver forces cutler to throw the ball to forte and forte to look better as a receiver. but if he makes that catch, the bears have a much better shot at winning.

So I assume these measures are to be taken as truth and QB Rating as lesser truth. QB rating has its flaws, and you can find plenty of criticism on those other stats as well. Bottom line is there isn't really one system that takes absolutely every factor into account, so I guess you'll believe what you want to.

Because after decades of frustration, it's finally payback time for Lions fans.

why don't they go after packers fans and vikings fans then? what's the big deal about the bears?

monday night was his best game of the season

my soulless assault on the Bears where i declared Forte as the best receiving RB in football

That's the token compliment that opens the door to the trashing of everything else.

Oh yes, we know all these strategies.

in order to make some stupid point about how it makes cutler somehow look worse.

I think I'm going to start out watching Rams/Packers.

Because if you don't watch the first 5 minutes of that one you likely won't ever get back to it.
