This is from yesterday:

@johnmanuelba Brett Jackson came up a bit lame on a steal of 3rd for Team USA. Might have jammed an ankle, looks like right leg. He's staying in

@johnmanuelba #Cubs Brett Jackson will keep hitting but won't run bases or play CF to make sure his right leg's healthy for World Cup, Pan Am Games

Team USA (barely) scraped through to the second round yesterday, so they'll get a chance to add to those stats.

Right fielder Brett Jackson (Cubs) led the way for the Americans offensively with three hits, including a double in the third that scored Andrew Garcia (White Sox) with the first U.S. run. Jackson advanced to third on an error, then scored on Joey Thurston's single. Thurston also factored into a two-run fourth, as Tommy Mendonca (Rangers) homered to lead off, and with two outs A.J. Pollock (Diamondbacks) and Thurston doubled to make it 4-0. The veteran Thurston (Marlins) is hitting .462 with eight RBIs, both team highs for the U.S.

Jackson homered in the sixth for the other American run. Van Hekken and reliever Scott Patterson (Mariners) finished up the victory.

Manager Jon Deeble said Searle pitched some of the best baseball he has ever seen.

“Searle pitched as good of a game as I’ve seen in the last 11 years managing this team,” Deeble said.

“He was outstanding, and really didn’t give them a sniff the entire game.”

The third place USA v Canada game was cancelled because of rain.

The Netherlands beat Cuba 2-1 in the final to become the first European winner since 1938.

Queen Beatrix sent her congratulations to the team by telegram. 8-)

Probably royal etiquette ;)

In fairness, their prime minister just congratulated them by phone.

From the AskBA:

There has been very little press coverage of the baseball competition at the Pan American Games in Mexico. Who were the top performers on Team USA?

The baseball tournament is ongoing, with the gold-medal game between Canada and the United States set for tonight at 8 p.m. ET. Team USA ended Cuba's streak of 10 straight Pan Am baseball titles over 40 years with a 12-10 victory in the semifinals yesterday. John Manuel has provided tournament updates on our Prospect Blog and will follow the game tonight on Twitter via @johnmanuelba.

USA Baseball has used a squad of minor leaguers for the World Cup in Panama (where Team USA reached the bronze-medal game but was rained out against Canada) and the Pan Am Games, which were staged three days apart. There are more journeymen than prospects, with top performers including Marlins second baseman Joe Thurston (.436/.500/.600 between the two tournaments), Red Sox outfielder Brett Carroll (.357/.449/.595, including a 9-for-14 performance at the Pan Am Games), Astros lefthander Andy Van Hekken (3-0, 1.29 in three starts) and Mariners righty Scott Patterson (three saves, 1.29 ERA in eight appearances).

Team USA's best prospect was Blue Jays catcher Travis d'Arnaud, who went 3-for-16 in four games before tearing ligaments in his left thumb and requiring surgery. Other prospects of note include Cubs outfielder Brett Jackson (.400/.450/.571), who has had just one at-bat at the Pan Ams because he's banged up; Diamondbacks outfielder A.J. Pollock (.255/.356/.392); and Tigers lefty Drew Smyly (2-0, 0.00 in three starts).
