What are you assuming Fielder, Pujols, and Wilson's salaries to be?

I was going off of CCP's estimate of what we would need, but I have to imagine that 45 million would be the high end for the two of them.

Wait. CJ Wilson could make $15m next year? No [expletive] way.

At his pace this year, he'll have racked up 10 WAR the last 2 years as a SP. Assume a 4-5 year deal and even with declining productivity he'd still be projected to be "worth" at least 15 mil annually, if not a bit more.

I was being very conservative and only projecting 35 million between two of them (and projecting 20 between arbitration/minimum salary guys) If it was more then the budget would have to be shaved even more.

I'm not arguing worth. But there's no way he commands that after just 2 years as a starter. He's 30 and was relatively obscure until people looked back at his stats after last year and raised an eyebrow. $10m maybe. $15m for 4+ years would shock me. If he had a 20-win insane year like cliff lee in 08, I could see it. But I can't believe he has that sort of hype now.

Like I mentioned earlier though, we're going to be paying Zambrano 19 million next year(and next year only) for far less that value in production. That gap covers pretty much the entirety of the difference in those estimates, so it would only take a slight backload to make that work. And for two guys you want as staples for 4-7 years, I think that's well worth it.

If Aramis could somehow step up and waive his NTC, what could we potentially get back from the Angels? Anything?

From MLBTR:

•The Twins are open to trading Delmon Young and Kevin Slowey, but interest in Young has been “tepid.” Slowey has drawn interest from the Rockies and others.

How about a deal centered around ARam for Young and Slowey.

I'd want a whole lot more than Young and Slowey for Aramis. Young is 26 this year, his best season is an .826 OPS and he has a .634 OPS this year. Slowey is 27 and has consistently been a mid 4.00s ERA and xFIP pitcher.

How about we don't need either of those guys

Considering they're 2 games back with a pile of crap at 3B, Id ask for 1 of their top 5 and another of their top 10-15. With Pena, we need to just get whatever we can. With Aramis, were in the drivers seat.

Why would we pay most of the salary? That has to be incorrect speculation of the worst kind. If Rammy was publicly willing to waive the NTC and be put on the block, he would be a very sought after bat right now.

How the [expletive] does that happen?

Exactly. If Beltran is worth a top 35 prospect, then Aramis has to be as well. And he should be even more valuable to the Cubs, since they can still retain him for one more season after this. Thus, they better not trade him just to get rid of him.

The deal could be expanded, but those guys would be be the big names. I'm not saying these guys are fantastic, but they are young guys with some success at the ML level rather than prospects. Maybe Jaramillo could help Young. Slowey at mid 4.00s ERA might translate into a decent middle of the rotation pitcher with a switch to the NL.

He's NSBB's master of the ghastly hypothetical trade. This is new for him, though. Usually he comes up with insane, video game-esque trades where the Cubs get like 5 teams involved and somehow end up with someone amazing while giving up scraps. Now he's apparently moved on to inexplicably wanting to give up players who are actually decent bargaining chips for cast-offs and reclamation projects. Go figure.

Bob Nightengale is saying Angels are very interested in Aramis. That's cool, except I'm a bit worried what he said afterward:

Saying the Angels would only have to give up low tier to middle tier prospects and the Cubs would pay most of the salary. Ahhhhhh, they better not do that.

OR. It says or.

And that's probably not right, either

Where are you seeing 'or'? I'm hoping you are right, but I don't see it.

This is what he tweeted.

"The Angels likely would have to give up nothing more than mid- to lower tiered prospect or 2. Cubs would pay big part of salary."
