Simpson's career statline ought to be stapled to Tim Wilken's face for future 1st rounds.

Golden is 3 for 3 now with a SB, that should push his OPS north of .900.

2.1 ip, 5 h, 5 er, 2 bb, 0 k, balk, wild pitch... pulled from the game.

=D>

It might be time to shut him down. Or at least send him to throw side sessions on back fields at Fitch.

I'm pretty excited about Szczur, Kirk, Golden, and Wells, so even if Simpson makes Mark Pawalek look like a worthwhile pick, the 2010 draft could still be a success.

kirk wasn't part of that draft.

is anyone else thoroughly unimpressed with our cuban signees? the 22 year old catcher (500k bonus) isn't hitting at boise, rubi silva looks like he has a marginal bat and serrano's K rate is lousy. i know we didn't make a huge investment in those players, but i feel like you should do better for $1.75 million worth of guys who are supposed to be pretty polished coming out of advanced cuban leagues.

jokisch pitched well, but he really isn't a prospect.

Why not again? Drafted last year and playing well. Maybe get moved to High A by end of this year and AA next year. Last I looked Jokisch is pitching a little better than our first round pick, and they are the same age! We'll see. My cousin who goes to a lot of peoria games said he really liked jokisch.

Pawelek threw 4 innings at A-ball without a severe injury holding him back. Simpson has already surpasses Pawelek.

And Kirk was drafted in 2009.

Was Austin Reed! I confuse the two.

As for the Cubans, Silva was looking pretty good in the beginning, but hasn't done anything special since, especially with 3 better CFs in the system.

easterling is 2-2 in his debut, although when you consider that he's been picked off and caught stealing, it's more like he's 0-2.

Yesterday was his debut and he 0/3.

so he's 0/5 then? :-)

Apparently Colin Richarson was bumped up to Boise from Mesa. Not sure why, I'm guessing it had nothing to do with his 12.46 ERA at Mesa.

Boise with their third straight walk-off extra inning win.

His baserunning must need some serious refinement. He was 3/3, but his first time on base he was picked off/caught stealing but reached 2nd on a missed catch error. Second time on he was caught stealing, and third time he was picked off 1st again.

Hunter Ackerman has really come on at Mesa. He got 6 Ks and 0 BBs in 4.2 innings; that's probably the first time he hasn't walked anyone as a pro.

I've seen him pitch twice in Peoria, once out of the pen piggybacking someone and once starting - and i came away with the impression that he's one of those types who will do well at lower levels but get swallowed up as he advances. He doesnt throw hard (didnt break 90 according to the guys w/ the guns i talked to at the game), and while his breaking pitch looked decent, he wasn't getting a ton of swings and misses.

I could be wrong (and as a Cubs fan, I hope I am) - but I think he's the least prospect wise of the 5 guys the Chiefs are starting (Kirk, Hicks, and Peralta for sure, and probably Del Valle too).

Silva got $1 million, so he wasn't exactly cheap. Seems like they're playing in line with their scouting reports. The catcher was supposed to have no bat, Silva was supposed to have speed, but with no patience or power and I don't remember reading Serrano had electric stuff. Seems like most of the Cuban players tend to be hyped up. Other than the White Sox, teams don't seem to have much luck there.

Yeah, I remember reading the scouting reports on the Cubans we signed and wondering why we spent on them. Maybe it's just us trying to make an inroads there in order to get some high profile guys later on?

Yeah, I'd agree with that assessment - Kirk, Peralta, Hicks and Del Valle are all more meaningful prospects than Jokisch.

Cubans are paid more than Latin American amateurs, probably partly because they're more advanced and not some 16-year old without any meaningful in-game experience and probably because more teams are in on them since their agents allow all MLB teams to watch them and they aren't hidden, etc in a little academy in the DR.

Thats fair. Just pointing out that I would have thought last year that Simpson would have better numbers than Jokisch. He did hit 91 last night.

Well, Simpson is struggling in the AZL and topping out at 85. Even if he had been drafted in the 3rd round, he'd be having a massively disappointing season.
