Well, I just bought tickets for Memorial Day (5/30) and got 3 seats in section 4, row 7. I don't think I've pulled up seats that good when I've bought in February.

I got seats for Saturday (5/28) and got three seats in 409 row 2.

Those are pretty good seats for waiting this long.

I haven't purchased tickets, and may not.

I found the price hike distasteful in this economic climate. But the truth is, I'm just not very excited about this team.

+1.

+ the increase in payroll, overall bad team.

Not to mention, I didn't like how Ricketts said he was going to spend $ on the draft and then didn't.

Yeah, you can't be mad about that anymore. It's well-known now that he is literally building for the future in Latin America. A huge presence there is probably more important than spending big every year in the draft (with the exception of this year and 2001).

I didn't read about the Cubs signing any big name Latin players, mostly just smaller slot guys.

Ricketts better spend this June.

...

He's talking about the Cubs' plans for a baseball academy in the Dominican Republican.

And are you expecting the Ricketts to force Wilken to spend money?

I expect better than #20 in draft $$ from an owner who has said he wants to build the farm and spend on the draft.

Do you think Wilken last year was allowed to take the players he truly wanted? He was on a budget.

A big market team like the Cubs should not be #20 in draft $.

If Ricketts doesn't pony up this year w/ the talent available - it will be pretty disgraceful.

agreed. the red sox have been among the top spenders in the draft for years, and that's despite drafting late in every round due to them being good.

Do you know Wilken wasn't allowed to take any of the players he "truly wanted?" Of course not. And yes, the entire team is on a budget. Be patient.

And too many people are conflating big spending with smart/good drafting and signing international free agents. Yes, I'd like to see the Cubs investing more in building their teams that way, but the key is in who they have doing their scouting and drafting as opposed to just throwing away big money because they can. Spend more, but spend smart.
