MLBN has a new weekly series counting down the 20 best games of the last 50 years (each episode is one hour and features one game). The series began last night with #20, which was the 23-22 Phillies win over the Cubs in 1977. Despite the outcome it was nice hearing Jack Brickhouse and Lou Boudreau again.

 

And for those who really enjoy torture, tonight at 9:00 Eastern time (repeated at midnight Eastern time) the Baseball Seasons series features 2003.

I really was hoping Wood's 20 strikeout game would be in this countdown, but in the selection show, they explained games with personal feats were excluded.

#19 also has Cubs connections, although unpleasant. It was Game 4 of the 2003 Marlins-Giants NLDS, when the Marlins eliminated the Giants to set the stage for the ill-fated NLCS. The starting pitching matchup was former Cub Dontrelle Willis vs. future Cub Jerome Williams.
