Considering UZR has been getting a good amount of play around here lately, I think a number of you would be interested in some recent arguments regarding UZR's reliability.

Basically speaking, UZR has problems when it comes to batted ball data in terms of what is a line drive and what is a fly ball. There's a certain level of subjectivity in that determination which can cause problems in UZR's reliability. As a result, UZR has a few problems when it comes to determining just how good outfielders are defensively. UZR also factors into WAR, which causes a few other issues regarding the reliability of WAR.

So, here's the article recently posted to BP which goes into detail about the problem, although the author goes off the deep end at times. FanGraphs posted a response shortly thereafter.
