Which is why the "federal option" in regards to insurance/care makes so much more sense if you're going to require that people have to have it.

 

A lot more sense. And even better would be a pervasive system of public hospitals, just like the roads.

 

Very true. I keep looking to Germany as the model we should be attempting to emulate. The private coverage/care still does very well there because it is significantly better than the state care. This was the crux of the attempted health care reform under Clinton, and I still think it's the smartest way to go since it shows that both options can certainly exist.

I'd be pretty careful about citing the preamble if I were a conservative. It gives the government a directive to promote the general welfare.

 

Congress doesn't need the preamble for a directive to promote/provide the general welfare. Because, you know, it's actually in the text of the document as well.

I'm amused that the two statistics on the first page (1/3 and 37 states) are backwards. It's 2/3 (probably a bit below that now) and 13 states.

 

Too much money for too little return.
