I'm going to be so pissed if they don't offer him arbitration.

Give him 5 days rest most of the time and he'll give you a great season. I still don't get why they threw out the "preserve and protect" gameplan they said they had when they acquired him.

Au contraire

According to ESPN Chicago's Bruce Levine, the Cubs are not shutting Rich Harden down for the rest of the season.

The Chicago Tribune's Paul Sullivan heard from sources Thursday afternoon that the Cubs are calling it quits on the '09 season for Harden, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Or at least the Cubs aren't ready to make that announcement just yet. We do know that he'll be skipped on his next turn through the starting rotation and that Tom Gorzelanny has been pegged to fill in.

I'd offer him arb and see if he bites. When he's on, he's one of the top 10 in baseball.

Offer him an incentive-laden deal that could end up going 2-3 years based on health, innings pitched, or something else. If he walks, someone else will be happy to roll the dice with him.
