http://www.pjstar.com/sports/x702344682/Learning-English-3-words-at-a-time

“English is a little difficult,” said Lake in his native Spanish. “You can hear a word once, then hear the same word a second time and it means something else.

“But two weeks ago, Kelly (Vanhove, the Chiefs trainer) started helping me learn three words a day.”

That daily ritual has become very popular in the Chiefs clubhouse, even though sometimes the players learn bonus words.

“I kind of joke around with (the Spanish-speaking players), and it’s a great way for them to communicate with the other teammates,” Vanhove said. “I let them pick the words. Today it was, ‘Hey, baby! I like your lips.’

“Some days it gets a little racy,” he added. “But it’s a good way to interact with him and try to teach him a little bit.”

“He has to work on his discipline, because he’s kind of a free swinger,” Garbey said. “We try to calm him down a little bit and try to teach him to stay longer on the breaking ball — his weakness.”

Pevey said that Lake, who hit .279 in his first two pro seasons, also was pulling his hands back “in a circular fashion” rather than taking them straight back.

“It makes him long to the ball, so he has to start his swing so early with breaking balls that he chases,” Pevey said. “When I throw BP to him, I could see his back elbow.”

Caridad was solid (Iowa's game doesn't start at 7:05 pm) - 6 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K. James Russell is in now from the pen (he has done well thus far as a reliever at Iowa).

Taiwanese RHP Yao-Lin Wang and Korean OF Dong-Yub Kim have been assigned to the Australian MLB Academy. Both are on the Roos roster: link. Last year, Korean SS Hak-Ju Lee, Aussie OF Sean Williams and Aussie pitchers Cody Hams, Ryan Searle and Adam Spencer all spent time in the MLBAAP. The games started on Monday but thus far, neither Kim nor Wang have gotten any playing time.

Also 20-year old RHP Oswaldo Martinez is on loan by the Cubs to the Broncos de Reynosa in the AAA Mexican League. Here are his stats: 1-5, 5.31 ERA, 57.2 IP, 27 K, 23 BB.

Boise Hawks placed CF Kurt Calvert on reserve list.

Boise Hawks placed 2B Dwayne Kemp on reserve list.

Boise Hawks placed RF Dylan Johnston on reserve list.

Not sure why, but I imagine it is to make room for today's 2009 draft pick signees.

Another good outing for Bristow but he gave up a ton of hits - 5 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K.

That's 15 IP, 14 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 9 K.

Vitters went 1/4.

he got hit with a line drive in the ankle in the 1st inning and struggled to throw strikes after that

pina was hitting 95mph, and blackford looked fairly solid
