I heard in spring training, I believe it was Kap, that Lee was put on the block and there were no takers.

 

that's possible, but even so I seem to recall reading something where Hendry asked Lee to waive his NTC and he wouldn't do it so either way it was lose-lose for the Cubs.

 

I'm guessing he'd think about waiving it if he started losing playing time to Hoffpauir.

It'd be nice if Lou and/or Hendry had the balls to do that. Then again, they start docking his playing time, it only further decreases his value

Even if he was all giddy about getting out of Chicago, you still have to deal with the fact he's due to make a crap load of money this year and next year, and there aren't many teams willing to pay your back up 1b that kind of money while also giving you something decent in return.
