Rachele Fico, a softball pitcher for Masuk High School in Monroe, Conn., threw her fourth consecutive perfect game Wednesday in an 11-0 victory over Kolbe Cathedral High School. It was Fico's seventh perfect game this season and 23rd of her career, which is a national record.

Fico's perfect game streak ended Thursday. She settled for a no-hitter – allowing just a fourth-inning walk – in a 9-0 victory over ND-Fairfield. Fico recorded 20 strikeouts, passing the 1,600 mark in her career, and improved her career record to 90-2 with a .006 ERA. She hasn't lost since April 2007, her sophomore season.

.006 ERA? POINT ZERO ZERO SIX. If they're figuring out ERA based on nine IP, that's 1 run every 1500 innings. If they're using seven IP, it's one run every 1167 innings.

Vance, you'll be happy. She's heading the Cajun's alma mater next fall. She throws a 70 MPH rise-screw, whatever the hell that is. Yeah she's hitting 70, 71 MPH from about 35 feet away. How'd she lose two games?

I don't know a lot about softball but I do know its a pitching game. If you have a great pitcher the other team can do nothing and unlike in baseball where pitchers are babied, softball pitchers pitch almost every game.

I also know in softball because they throw underhand not overhand they have a riser rather than a sinker. So a rise-screw would be a screwball that rises.

oh, you think so, doctor?

I'll have to do some deep thinking and get back to you on it.

Wow, that's pretty awesome.

Not really.

They need to stop treating women like they are in little league and move the mound back and the bases further apart. The fences can stay where they are.
