Looks like he made the Pirates!

 

There's one cut left, coming from the Bullpen. So, it's not really a done deal yet. But, this morning's PG says the last cut is probably down to Even Meek or Jesse Chavez, meaning Veal made the team.

 

Also, keep in mind, that Huntington is not happy and is looking for help there. He got Yates last year. So, while Veal is safe for now, doesn't mean he'll still be here in 2 weeks.

Mostly, last year, he was used in mop-up situations. But, no matter when he entered the game, it was ugly (at least from where I was sitting!)

 

Meek, who was not quite ready for prime time was eventually fully acquired from the Rays for cash. We were able to send him down - AA at first then AAA where he put together some good numbers.

 

He had a good spring and has made the club.

 

Last year, he was a doe in the headlights while with the big club. The reports are he looks a lot calmer this year and has been throwing the ball very well.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Veal stick, just so they can keep him without compensation. It's not like the Pirates have much else to play for this season.
