Lost among the Cubs recent slide is what's going on in the NL West. The Dodgers followed up an eight-game losing streak by winning eight straight. That stretch included two wins at Arizona (they lost the first game as a part of the losing streak) and three-game sweeps at home against San Diego and Arizona. LA now holds a 1.5 game lead over Arizona.

Here are the remaining schedules in order through the rest of the year

LA: 3 @ SD, 3 @ COL, 4 @ Pitt, 3 vs. SF, 3 vs. SD, 3 @ SF

Ari: 3 @ SF, 3 vs. Cinn. 4 vs. SF, 3 @ COL, 3 @ StL, 3 vs. COL.

The Dodgers seem to have the easier schedule. They both have three home and at SF and three at Colorado. The Dodgers get San Diego for six and four at Pittsburgh while the DBacks have 3 vs. Cincinnati, 1 vs. SF, 3 at St. Louis and 3 vs. Colorado.

I sincerely hope the Dodgers win the division so we don't have to face AZ again.

Only thing is "Mr. .410/.507/.754/1.261" that they picked up :(

These teams are barely hanging around .500

It's truly a disgrace that one of these ballclubs will be given an actual shot to take out a really good baseball team in a short series just because they happen to reside in a horrible division.

It's possible that the top four teams in the NL could be from the central and two won't make the playoffs while and under 500 team could make it from the West and have as much of a chance of winning the World Series as the best team in baseball.

It would probably be ridiculous, but sometimes I wish there was a rule if you aren't enough games over .500, they revert to a 2nd Wild Card team instead.

A better solution would be to go back to 2 divisions and have 2 WCs. Though that would also create other problems like travel, schedulling and interleague.

I've wanted the Cubs to face the Dodgers in the first round over the DBacks for quite some time but I'd rather face a toasted Haren, Webb and Johnson than a healthy Billingsley, Lowe and Kuroda.

If that division stays close, both staffs could be toast come playoff time. It's too bad these teams don't face each other in the final series.

I like the Dodgers schedule better.

I don't know why I typed the Dodgers' schedule was tougher. I meant easier.

furcal is not coming back, right?

He's trying to, but he might run out of time. In fact, it might already be too late. I can't imagine he will be much of a threat when he'll basically be starting spring training in the heart of a pennant race.
