the whole thing is terribly silly...the season is starting for the A's and the red sox...but then they come back and each play another exhibition series...why in the world couldn't they have started this thing in japan on the 31st...there is still a week to go in spring training...

flat out silly

The way they have it set up now, they play over there, then get back to the states with a week to transition back, and then start up again with real games.

Silly would be expecting these teams to spend a week in Japan, play on the 31st, and then a day or two later be playing again 12 time zones away.

you have your view and i have mine

You are seriously that out of touch with reality?

Play on the 31st, flay around the globe, and play a fresh team 2 days later.

Wow.

going to california to play a series wouldn't be that hard...but yes...i suppose i am out of touch with reality...wow...thanks for the insight!

Yeah, and there's not a FOURTEEN hour time difference to california either.

ESPN made it seem like the player's union negotiated the stipend for the players, and then everyone just assumed that staff and trainers were involved in that when they in fact weren't. There's probably a lot of truth to that because MLB still isn't paying the full 40 grand. They're paying 20 to the coaches and trainers, and I think the Red Sox are covering the rest.

It's good that the players stood up for their trainers and coaches, but they also almost waved a giant middle finger to the fans who paid to see them play, and showed up today. If this would've taken a little while longer, that game wouldn't have been played, and there'd be a bunch of probably bitter fans that made the trip to spring training to catch a game.

I also find this whole issue to be stupid because they're basically being paid an extra 40 grand for a trip to Japan. Unless I'm mistaken, they'd be paid their normal rate just for working the game, and the 40 grand extra is almost like an appearance fee. I wish someone would give me an extra 40 grand to go to Japan for a few days and do my job.
